What are the customs of Kaiping Diaolou?
1. Pancun Lantern Festival, also known as Dance Lantern Festival. It is held on the thirteenth day of the first lunar month every year. It is the custom of Pan Village in Shuikou Town, and it is also a large-scale mass folk art activity. There are 48 natural villages in Pancun, with a population of10.5 million, all surnamed Kuang. Villagers and folk artists made lanterns with a height of 1 meter with bamboo, wood and colored paper, which were beautifully decorated. On the day of the Lantern Festival, young people selected from each village formed a lantern dance team, accompanied by several Swiss lions, beating gongs and drums, setting off firecrackers and marching to each village. On this day, villagers, relatives and friends gathered together, every village was hung with colorful flags, every household was decorated with lanterns, men, women and children put on new clothes, and the festive atmosphere was everywhere. Crowds outside the village flooded in to watch the excitement. At the beginning of the lantern dance, the boys danced from village to village with lanterns, surrounded by lion dance teams and flag teams. It was very lively with the sound of gongs and drums, Swiss lion dance and firecrackers. Many people who work outside the home, compatriots from Hong Kong and Macao and overseas Chinese also made a special trip back to their hometown to watch the Lantern Festival. According to legend, this custom began in the Ming Dynasty and has a history of more than 500 years. The area around Pancun is Heishi Mountain, which looks like "five beasts" such as elephants, lions, tigers, cows and sheep, and is called "the land of five beasts". In the first year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty (1368), Kuangyi moved to this village (Longtianli) from Nanxiong, Guangdong, but after many years, the population was still not prosperous and everything was depressed. It is said that the lion is the king of the five beasts. The lion dozes off all day, even for a long time, and the other four beasts take the opportunity to harm everywhere, making the villagers in Pancun suffer frequently. Especially the 13th day of the first month of every year is the most unlucky day, and the disaster is especially serious. Kuang Yisheng chose the 13th day of the first month as the Lantern Dance Day, and asked all the villagers in Pancun (those who go out to work, also stay until the Lantern Dance Day) to set up three giant lanterns, beat gongs and drums and dance lions, and parade around the villages. Everywhere, gongs, drums and firecrackers shook the earth, in order to wake up the lion king, scare off the four beasts, eliminate disasters and make Pan Village prosperous. Since then, on the 13th day of the first month, the dancing lanterns in Pancun Village have been handed down from year to year. Dragon Boat Festival is a lively day for Kaiping people in the water town.

This area has followed the tradition of "dragon boat knot". Every time the Dragon Boat Festival approaches, the dragon boats in Shuikou, Longdong, Yueshan, Shagang and the Governor will take turns to host and invite nearby dragon boats to visit the village. On this day, the invited dragon boat will take the whole village across the river, and the "host family" will set off firecrackers along the river and greet them with golden pigs. After the game, the "host family" still held a "dragon boat banquet" in the village to entertain hundreds of guests from all walks of life. The scene is unique and lively. 3. Rice jumping was held in1February, and it only became a custom in some villages. There is a memorial arch or altar in front of Dengliao or the "country". Please open an altar to worship the world and pray for good weather, abundant crops and prosperous livestock in the new year.

4. Lanterns are scattered on the 20th day of the first month. The practice is that the ancestors buy some pork to sacrifice to their ancestors, and then divide the pork according to the number of men, indicating the end of the whole Spring Festival activities. That's all, I hope I can help you!
