Yulin City, a prefecture-level city in Shaanxi Province, began in the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period and flourished in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It is the resident of Yansui Town (also known as Yulin Town) in Jiubian Town in Ming Dynasty. Emperor Kangxi gave it a stone tablet, known as "the ancient city in the south tower, and the sixth floor is famous for riding the street."

Yulin City is located in the northernmost part of Shaanxi Province, bordering Gansu and Ningxia in the west, Inner Mongolia in the north, Shanxi across the Yellow River in the east and Yan 'an City in Shaanxi Province in the south. The maximum length from east to west is 309 kilometers, the maximum width from north to south is 295 kilometers, and the total land area is 42,920.2 square kilometers, ranking first among 10 prefecture-level cities in Shaanxi Province.
