Luzhou umbrella industry originated in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties.

The birthplace of Luzhou oil-paper umbrella production technology is Fenshui Town, Luzhou City, Sichuan Province, with a history of more than 400 years. Luzhou oil-paper umbrella is made of tung oil, bamboo, bamboo, paulownia wood, leather paper and other materials rich in Luzhou. The umbrella body is light and beautiful, poetic and picturesque, and has a strong local flavor. It is a common item in folk weddings and primitive religious activities. Its production process is complex and the product quality is good.

On June 7, 2008, Jiangyang District, Luzhou City, Sichuan Province, declared the umbrella-making skill (oil-paper umbrella-making skill), which was approved by People's Republic of China (PRC) and the State Council, and was included in the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage list, with the heritage number ⅷ- 140.

Process characteristics:

Oil-paper umbrella consists of three parts: umbrella pole, umbrella rib and umbrella cover, in which the umbrella pole is the backbone of the umbrella and supports the weight of the whole umbrella. The umbrella rib consists of a batch and an inner container, which can be opened and closed, making the umbrella easy to carry. Umbrella cover is an important part of umbrella, which plays a role in sheltering from rain. After drawing the pattern, the umbrella cover has a beautiful decorative effect.

Although an oil-paper umbrella has only three parts, it needs at least 70 processes, which are interrelated and independent. The whole production process of oil-paper umbrella is actually a collection of various manual skills, such as technology, printing technology, paper mounting technology, painting technology and so on.
