Wedding is the "basis of ceremony". "Faint Righteousness" says: "* * * In prison, we eat and drink together, so if we are together, we will respect each other, and our relatives will also." When a couple get married, there should be no excessive behavior in the ceremony. * * * Eating and drinking together in prison is precisely to show that husband and wife are a family and love each other.
The core of the May Day wedding is "* * * eating in prison and drinking together". We chose a lawn in the community, and there is a pine tree on the lawn. We used pine as the background for the wedding. There are green grass and red flowers under the tree.
We put some boxes under the tree.
There are three kinds of meat dishes on several boxes. These meat dishes are called "prisons". The eating habits of ancient Han people are similar to those of today's dining system, and all kinds of food are served to everyone. So before the newly married husband and bride, the staple food is millet and millet, and sauce, glutinous rice, glutinous rice as seasoning. But the wedding is special. There is only one meat dish between two people's meals, so that the new husband and wife can eat it together, which is called "* * * eating in prison".
The ancients wanted to "eat" after meals, that is, gargle with wine, not only to clean the mouth, but also to eat safely. There are three kinds of fermented grains, which are called "three fermented grains". Three wine containers were used in the wedding, the first two were used and the last one was used. The so-called hoe is a ladle made by cutting the hoe in half, and the husband and wife each drink one piece, which is called "hoe drink".
We got everything ready. The newly married husband and wife came hand in hand in Chinese wedding dresses and sat opposite each other every few squares. Two bridesmaids serve as waiters, and then sit on the opposite side of the couple. A dozen of our guests in Weiyang, from the Han Dynasty, all wore Hanfu and sat behind the couple.
Friends present should remember the scene at that time. There was another wedding in the community, and no one saw it, and the residents flocked to us. Although there are many spectators, it is not noisy. Especially when I stood up as a compliment, the atmosphere was very quiet and solemn. The eulogy was drafted by Qin, and Enron Jun wrote it in calligraphy-

After singing the hymn, the bride and husband began the ceremony of "eating in prison and drinking together". The waiter brought the couple a dish and the couple tasted it. So until all three dishes have been tasted. Just taste every dish. The first wedding reception was simple, and the ceremony was eaten, but the real food was very little. Then, the waiter poured the couple wine. The couple didn't drink, just gargled and spit it out.
As can be seen from the Stone Wedding, the pre-Qin wedding was quite simple, with only a few dishes and no celebration and celebration ceremony, which was in sharp contrast with today's wedding. The Book of Rites says: "You don't have to be happy when you are dizzy, but you live in seclusion. Le, Yang is also. " Even so, we have prepared ancient music as the background. Because there is no speaker at the scene, the volume is slight, which means there is no music. Fortunately, although there was no joy, the scene was not noisy. * * * Prison marriage is a silent ceremony. I thought silence would stop this scene. Unexpectedly, many spectators were able to spend this quiet ceremony with the bride and groom and Hanfu guests in Weiyang.
After the ceremony, the bride and husband exchanged salutations, and the guests in Weiyang, China sang "Forever for your family" and bowed together.
The ancient Han people watched the wedding as if the blood of the nation was an alliance, and the oath of brothers was an alliance. The essence of engagement between men and women lies in vows. The oath itself contains eternity. So we say "pledge of eternal love". Breaking this eternal agreement will at least be punished morally, so the oath has the nature of a spell. So is the engagement. However, in ancient Han people, everything in nature was transformed by the sun and the earth. Men and women are the yin and yang poles of society, the origin of human beings and the starting point of all ethics.
It is precisely because of the philosophical essence of engagement that the wedding of ancient Han people was not extravagant and noisy, but treated with a respectful and solemn heart.
So, on May 1 day, 2006, on a meadow in Shanghai, we replayed the wedding of Weiyang Han in the Han Dynasty. In May, the grass is full of flavor and the pine trees are tall and lush, which can symbolize the love of couples. The philosophical concern of Han ancestors for the universe, heaven and earth, men and women is displayed in front of us.
