Jilin customs-Northeast Yangko
Yangko, which is popular in Jilin, is a folk art integrating dance, singing and drama, with dance as the main part. From the form of performance, it can be divided into land yangko, stilt yangko, inch yangko and various forms of expression such as lifting pole, back pole and fork pole. It is usually combined with folk dances such as dragon lantern, lion dance, roller boating, scooter pushing and overlord whip.
Diyangko is the most popular and flexible of several kinds of yangko. There are several theories about the origin of local yangko in Jilin. Among them, Kublai Khan proclaimed himself emperor. After the establishment of the Great Yuan Empire in the Yuan Dynasty, he organized the people into a team of fifty households and sent a Yuan soldier to take care of them. During the Spring Festival and Lantern Festival, in order to prevent people from gathering to revolt, Yuan Bing called men from all families and led them to sing and dance. Later, this activity was handed down as a form of performance and evolved into yangko. The basis of this statement is that there is a figure "Lao Ta" (referring to Yuan Bing) in the traditional yangko in Jilin, who is the leader and conductor of the yangko team.
