Pingcheng in Shang Dynasty is the present position.
Pingcheng is located in an intermountain basin 6 kilometers north of Lingchuan County, Jincheng City, Shanxi Province. According to Lingchuan County Records, Pingcheng was inhabited by human beings long before Yao and Shun, and was taken by Jizhou in Xia and Shang Dynasties, which was the land of Ji Wang under the direct jurisdiction of Xia and Shang kings. During the Spring and Autumn Period, it belonged to Jin State, Korea and later Zhao State. After the battle of Changping, it was annexed by the state of Qin. After Qin Shihuang unified China, it belonged to Dugao County and Shangdang County, and Lingchuan County from the Western Han Dynasty to the Wei and Jin Dynasties. It was not until the sixteenth year of Sui Dynasty (AD 596) that Lingchuan County was established, and Pingcheng was under the jurisdiction of this county.
