1. What does the fluorescence of diamond mean?
As the name implies, the fluorescence of diamond refers to the light emitted by diamond under the excitation of ultraviolet light. Some diamonds fluoresce, usually blue and white, and a few diamonds fluoresce yellow. This index is different from the 4C parameter of diamond and can be used as an auxiliary index to evaluate the quality of diamond.
There is no indication on the domestic certificate at all, and the salespersons in jewelry stores rarely mention it to customers, but everyone in the industry knows that the degree of fluorescence does affect the price. The fluorescence of diamonds is hard to feel in the sun. Only in the summer with strong ultraviolet rays and strong fluorescence can the fluorescence effect be observed with the naked eye, and normal wearing does not have much influence.
Second, the definition of fluorescence standard
GIA divides the fluorescence in the world from high to low into none, weak, medium blue/medium yellow, strong blue/yellow and so on.
IGI standard: none, very weak, weak, strong, etc. Every international certificate has instructions.
Although the requirements for fluorescence in the newly promulgated diamond standard in China are not strict, there are clear provisions. China is divided into four grades according to the luminous intensity of diamonds under long-wave ultraviolet light: strong, medium, weak and none. However, because many consumers don't understand and care, there is no indicator of diamond fluorescence in China's appraisal certificate.
Third, diamonds have the difference between fluorescence and non-fluorescence.
Fluorescence is a natural index, not an artificially added factor. Considering that fluorescence will make the luster of diamonds appear impure, the price of diamonds with fluorescence will be lower than that without fluorescence, and the higher the fluorescence grade, the lower the price.
Fourth, fluorescence safety.
The principle of diamond fluorescence is that when the diamond is irradiated by ultraviolet rays, because it contains nitrogen atom impurities, the ultraviolet energy is absorbed by it and immediately re-emitted at a lower energy level or a longer wavelength. The low-energy fluorescence we often see is blue fluorescence, which has no radioactivity and radiation, and will not have any impact on health, so you can wear it with confidence.
So from the above, we can know whether there is any difference in fluorescence between diamonds. Friends who don't mind fluorescent can consider buying fluorescent ones. After all, they should be cheaper. Don't buy it if you don't like it. This is a natural difference, and it has no particularly great influence. It all depends on personal preference.
