Fengxiang clay sculpture has a history of more than 600 years. When Zhu Yuanzhang was the emperor of the Ming Dynasty, some soldiers stationed in the Sixth Battalion in Shaanxi (now Fengxiang County) came from Jingdezhen, a famous porcelain capital in Jiangxi. After these soldiers who are good at squeezing clay figurines settled in the Sixth Battalion, the clay products manufacturing industry here flourished and spread to the world.

There is a custom of worshipping tigers in Fengxiang area, which is related to the totem worship of ancient tigers. Folks believe that tigers can ward off evil spirits and protect people, so whether they are married, have a full moon, or give birthdays to the elderly, they are happy to give tigers, cloth tigers, paper tigers and mud tigers, among which mud tigers are mostly. In Fengxiang's farmhouse, there are scissors on the window, mud sitting on the kang, mud tigers hanging on the door and wall, little dolls wearing cloth tiger pillows, tiger hats and tiger shoes, which makes people feel that they have accidentally fallen into the "tiger nest".
