"Yangko" is a dance of the Han nationality, which originated from the working life of transplanting cultivated land, and is also related to the ode sung to worship the agricultural god and pray for a bumper harvest. Yangko is popular in northern Shaanxi, Hebei, Henan, Shandong and other Han areas, and is a popular folk dance in rural areas of China. It is mainly performed in the square during the major festivals of the Lunar New Year. It is a comprehensive art form integrating song, dance and drama.
When people dance yangko, the clothes they wear are in sharp contrast, red, blue, yellow, green and colorful. Everyone is holding waving red silk and singing and dancing with the accompaniment of gongs and drums to express their happy mood and yearning for a better life.
