Wuning county is located in the northwest of Jiangxi province, at the junction of Hunan, Hubei and Jiangxi provinces. It starts at 28 53' north latitude in the south and ends at 29 35' north latitude. East longitude 1 14 29' in the west and east longitude 1 15 27' in the east. It is about 93.3 kilometers long from east to west and has a diameter from east to west. It is 0/30km away from Nanchang, the provincial capital, 260km away from Wuhan and 3 10/0km away from Changsha.

Both mountains are nearly east-west, forming the north-south barrier of the county.
