Population structure has become a focus of Italy's current economic development. The shrinking and aging population will reduce the country's productivity, lack innovation and increase welfare expenditure.
Demographer Braggiado pointed out that since 20 14 years, the population of Italy has been shrinking, with a cumulative decrease of1360,000 residents. "The life expectancy of Italy's population has increased significantly, and the birth rate has dropped sharply, leading to the aging of the population much faster than other EU countries." According to this trend, by 2050, the population of Italy will be reduced to 54.2 million, and by 2070, only 47.7 million people will remain.
In order to reverse this trend, in the 2023 budget, the new Italian government is prepared to cut the consumption tax on baby care products and improve the welfare of children to promote the growth of birth rate.
