Pumi nationality is a member of the big family of the Chinese nation, with a population of more than 52,700 (2005). Pumi people are simple in folk customs, kind and simple, and strong in character. They mainly live in Lanping Bai Pumi Autonomous County and Ninglang Yi Autonomous County in the northwest plateau of Yunnan Province. The four stringed musical instruments of Pumi nationality, called Bibo, are mainly used as accompaniment of Pumi collective songs and dances, and are widely spread in Pumi areas such as Hexi Township, Tongdian Town, Jinding Town, Lajing Town, Deng Shi Township and Yingpan Town of Lanping Bai Pumi Autonomous County.
Rich and colorful national culture is reflected in all aspects of folk literature, music and dance. Lanping minority songs and dances occupy a place in Yunnan's national cultural resources with their rich connotations, forms of expression and unique charm and characteristics. Among them, the most representative ones are CuO, Sacrifice Three Feet, Give the Sheep, Swing Time, Mo Guang, You Yi, Genesis, Oh Hello, Oh Yi Kai, Worship for the Sun and Nu Alosi Cup.
The Pumi dance "Cuochuo" has long been famous all over the world. Swing Time, Mo Guang, Entertainment and others have participated in Beijing China International Chorus Festival twice, enjoying a high reputation in Beijing and making a sensation in the international music scene.
