Why Changchun Confucian Temple was chosen in the southeast of the old city?
After approval, the official and gentry department of Changchun Hall chose the address of the Confucian Temple at the southeast edge of the old city at that time, that is, to the north of Dongerdao Street (now Dongtoudao Street). According to textual research, the location of the Confucian Temple is based on several reasons:
First of all, in addition to the available open space, there is also a natural ditch that runs through the southeast and flows into the Yitong River, which can be used as the Chi Pan (also known as "Panguchi", which is a symbol of the official faction).
Secondly, due to the consideration of geomantic omen, the ancients believed that the Confucian temple in charge of a local literary movement must be built in a suitable "geomantic treasure land", so that the literary movement can be fully displayed and the rites and music can be enlightened and prosperous.
The location of the Confucian Temple in Changchun is just right. Because there are no mountains in the old city of Changchun, there can be no towering things on the right, but the left side is open and bright, and the southeast gate of Changchun is in front. This city gate used to have a parapet, so it is possible to build a promising building. Everything here meets the requirements of "Three Essentials of Yangzhai". Therefore, Changchun Confucian Temple was built here.
