The Gospel Church, located at No.7 Yang Tianjing Street, Langzhong City, also known as St. John's Cathedral, was built by Gai Shili, one of the British missionaries, and designed by Australian engineers. It was built in the thirty-fourth year of Guangxu (AD 1908) and has a history of one hundred years.
Langzhong Gospel Church is one of the earliest western-style buildings in Sichuan and the largest existing Christian church in southwest China. This used to be the general church of Dongchuan Christian parish.
Sitting west to east, the church is cross-shaped, with the appearance of European classical Gothic architecture and the traditional platform beam structure of China. Covering an area of 6,000 square meters, the building area is about 1600 square meters, which can accommodate more than 2,000 believers. There are both missionary and lecture facilities in the west and gold-plated inscriptions by China in the hall. The combination of Chinese and western cultures in the whole building is the crystallization of the blending of Chinese and western cultures.
