Ganluo county is a national poverty-stricken county. Located in the northern part of Liangshan Prefecture, 237 kilometers south of Xichang, it is known as the "North Gate of Liangshan" and is inhabited by Yi, Han and Tibetan nationalities.

Ganluo County is located in the southwest platform of Sichuan, at the northern foot of Daliangshan Mountain and at the eastern foot of Xiaoxiangling Mountain. It is an alpine canyon zone where the western edge of Sichuan Basin transits to the terrain of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
Affected by the folds, uplifts, faults and sharp cutting of rivers in Hengduan Mountains, the mountains in the territory are undulating, ravines are vertical and horizontal, the height difference between the river reach and the mountains on both sides is great, the valley walls are steep, and the riverbed is narrow, showing typical landform characteristics of high mountains and valleys. Only in some areas such as Hotanba near the county seat, relatively wide river valleys and mountain trough dams appear intermittently. The terrain is high in the east, west and south, and low in the north and middle.
