Longyan and Gutian are located in Fujian Province and belong to the language area of Minnan dialect. However, there are some subtle dialect differences in this area, which may lead to some differences in pronunciation, vocabulary and expression between Longyan and Gutian.

As far as pronunciation is concerned, Longyan dialect has some special phonetic changes and phonetic features compared with standard Minnan dialect. Gutian dialect also has its own unique phonetic features, such as tone sandhi and syllable simplification.
