Dazu County was built in the first year of Gan Yuan, Tang Suzong (AD 758), which was named after the meaning of "Dafeng Dazu". Because of the legend that "there are begonia but it smells unique", it has the reputation of "begonia fragrant country" From the end of Tang Dynasty to the end of Song Dynasty, it was ruled by Changzhou Prefecture and Tongchuan Prefecture. Ming Hongwu changed to Chongqing in ten years. At the end of Qing Dynasty, the Republic of China belonged to Chongqing and East Sichuan Province. In 24 years (A.D. 1935), it belonged to the third administrative supervision area of Sichuan Province. After liberation, it was successively placed in Bishan area of Lichuan eastbound, Jiangjin area of Sichuan Province and Yongchuan area. 1983, Yongchuan area was abolished in Chongqing.
