Lily of the valley is a perennial herb with a plant height of 20-30cm. There are laterally branched rhizomes underground, and thick underground buds at the stem ends. 2-3 leaves, embracing each other at the base, ovoid or narrowly ovoid, with solitary veins and luster. The raceme leans to one side, with a height of 15-20 cm, bell-shaped white flowers in summer, small flowers of about 10, a diameter of about 8mm, drooping and fragrant. The fruit is a berry, red at maturity, 5-7 mm in diameter, and contains several large pale white or light brown seeds. Seeds are dry, beady, clear and translucent, 1-3 mm wide.
