Tianjin folk discussion: Why do Tianjin people choose to hold their wedding in the afternoon or evening?
Unlike wedding customs in many cities, weddings are held in the morning. The wedding (first marriage) in Tianjin (downtown) is held in the afternoon or evening. If it is held in the morning, it is usually not the first wedding.

First of all, I want to express my sincere love for this custom. It's so human! You don't have to get up early on the wedding weekend! ) I can't restrain my appreciation!

My hometown is the northeast, Changchun City, Jilin Province.

Why are you so specific? Really, if I say Northeast China covers three provinces, friends from other cities in Northeast China will really jump out and say that I am one-sided. (For example, the public security I mentioned earlier)

Therefore, be careful what you say to avoid being beaten by wolves. Do you have any friends who love werewolf killing? )

That is beside the point.

In Changchun, red and white events are held in the morning, more precisely, in the morning.

It's the saddest thing to take part in white affairs.

Even participating in red activities, that is, happy events and weddings, is actually sad at first.

Red envelopes are actually ok, but if you want to have a good weekend, you have to get up early. The mood is really gloomy.

And it's actually more cruel to the bride and groom. Guests will attend the ceremony after breakfast, so the bride and groom, especially the bride, should make up their hair styles and shapes in advance.

Therefore, brides or bridesmaids basically have to get up in the early morning to start preparations. In other words, I often can't sleep for hours.

It is understood that weddings are held in the morning not only in my hometown, but also in many cities.

My high school best friend's husband is from Beijing and her wedding was held in Beijing. As a bridesmaid, I went to the hotel to accompany her the night before and got up early the next morning to make preparations.

When I finish being her maid of honor, I will set up a flag, and I will never be a maid of honor again ... nothing but getting up too early and being too tired.

Oh, but it's not just afternoon or evening in Tianjin. I stayed in Suzhou for two years. Coincidentally, weddings in Suzhou are also held in the afternoon or evening, which is different from other cities in the south of the Yangtze River.

Let's talk about Tianjin instead of Suzhou today. Do you know why weddings in Tianjin are held in the afternoon or evening?

In fact, when I first came to Tianjin, I asked my local friends in Tianjin, and they basically couldn't tell why, just because they were used to it.

Recently, I read a book about the history of Tianjin, and gave some opinions on this marriage custom in Tianjin:

Strictly speaking, only the downtown area of Tianjin holds weddings in the afternoon or evening, and the surrounding areas of Tianjin and Hebei Province get married before 12 am. Once they get married after noon, they are considered as "second marriage", which is very unlucky in the eyes of many people. Then why is downtown Tianjin so special that we must get married in the afternoon or evening? There are many sayings about this:

Some people say it's because of early immigrants. Because most of the early residents of Tianjin migrated from Anhui, it will inevitably bring many customs and habits of Anhui, and some areas in Huai 'an do have the habit of getting married in the afternoon. So many people think that the marriage customs in Tianjin are the result of early immigrants.

The second is because of the "faint ceremony" tradition. In ancient times, people got married at dusk. There is an old saying: "A woman belongs to the shade, and she will enter her husband's family after sunset." Therefore, Tianjin has always maintained an ancient ceremony.

Third, it is because of the dock culture. As we all know, Tianjin started with water transportation and then prospered its economy. Therefore, the land and water terminals are busiest on weekdays. Generally, merchant ships leave port or dock early, and there is no free time for loading and unloading in the morning, so the wedding date is postponed to afternoon or evening. After a long time, it becomes a habit.

Fourth, it is because of the influence of the concession. After the emergence of concessions and churches in Tianjin, traditional culture was also influenced by foreign cultures. Weddings in foreign churches are usually held in the afternoon, and China people imitate them according to their own needs. They no longer lift sedan chairs or get up early to see relatives, but gradually change to afternoon and evening.

-Visiting a Famous Cultural City-Memories of Old Tianjin

In fact, the book also gives a fifth statement, but the author himself thinks it is unreliable. I think he thinks it's right, so he won't show it to everyone.

The author of this book did not give a conclusion at last. I think this is also a wonderful part of folk culture. Unlike an exam, it has a fixed answer.

It can not only let people know more about history and traditional culture, but also let people have their own ideas and judgments on this basis.

Personally, among the four reasons, the second and fourth points are more reliable, more like the comprehensive influence of these two points.

The following is the logic of my disk: (Call the werewolf to kill Hao Tong again)

First of all, if it was influenced by early immigrants, why didn't Tianjin and Hebei Province be affected by it?

The third point is the same. There is more than one wharf in Tianjin. Why only in Tianjin? Moreover, marriage has been called a "big event" since ancient times, and weddings are not every day. If we sacrifice the wedding time to do dock work, it still feels a little out of line with the national conditions and people's feelings.

In contrast, the second and fourth points are much more reasonable. Tianjin is a city with both ancient culture and modern concession culture. For an old example, the wedding was held at dusk, and so were foreigners in the concession period, so they simply followed the tradition of reservation.

What do you think? Which point of view do you like? Or are there other reasons besides these four points?
