The differences are summarized as follows:
1 and HDVD are mainly aimed at TV series. Video coding is mpeg 1, and audio tracks and subtitles are not optional. It can be regarded as a VCD based on DVD! Featuring D5, the stored program lasts for a long time, about 450 minutes or more!
2.WDVD is mainly aimed at released DVD movies. Video coding is mpeg2-2, with optional audio tracks and subtitles, so as to obtain high compression ratio at the expense of image quality, and then store DVD movies for more than 200 minutes!
Supplementary knowledge:
What is LD?
LD is the abbreviation of English Laser Disc, which is translated into Chinese as "laser disc". Because it is mainly used to record audio-visual materials, it is also called "laser disc", and sometimes it is called "laser disc" directly according to pronunciation. The diameter of LD is generally 20cm or 30cm, with clear images and excellent sound quality. In the so-called "home theater", LD players are often used as playing equipment, and of course, the discs played are also LD.
What is DVCD?
At present, there is a DVD that can play 100 minutes. We think that DVCD is a "high-density CD format", which doubles the track density of optical discs without changing the laser parameters, thus achieving perfect compatibility. The appearance of DVCD brought a fatal impact to DVD, because DVD changed the laser parameters. As we all know, CDROM can't read DVD, while DVCD (Dual VCD) uses laser to automatically locate the track. When the track density doubles, ordinary CDROM drives can still find and locate the track position correctly. After locating the track position, ordinary CDROM drives can read data, because DVCD will not change the laser parameters. Some CD-R optical drives are exceptions, because the recording needs to fix the track spacing by physical means to record 650M data, so it is impossible to automatically locate the track position, so it is impossible to read DVCD.
The "high-density CD format" like DVCD can be completely applied to ordinary data discs. As long as there is a CD-R recording drive that can record 1.2GB, the "high-density CD format" can be produced. We estimate that such a CD-R recording drive will be available soon. In this way, there is no market for DVD-ROM. The appearance of DVCD comes at the right time, because SVCD needs four ordinary discs to accommodate it, while DSVCD with "high-density CD format" only needs two. After three such "high-density discs", a D 1 (720X480) full-resolution movie can be put down, and DVD will have no advantage. This full D 1 resolution can be played by the super VCD player which is selling well now. The advantage of this revolutionary innovation with full range compatibility is that the VCD industry has leapt to a new level.
However, the logical characteristics of ordinary optical discs limit the further improvement of the capacity of "high-density optical disc format", because the original capacity of 74 minutes is 74× 60× 75× 2048/1024//kloc-0 = 650 m, and because optical discs use two BCD codes to represent track sector addresses, the maximum capacity of "high-density optical disc format". That is, the capacity of data disk is:100x60x75x2048/1024/1024 = 879m, and the capacity of a sector when storing VCD is 2352. That is, the maximum capacity of DVCD is:100x60x75x2352/1024/1024 =1009m =1.009g. Unless the CDROM drive is changed, hexadecimal sector address notation is used. However, the track distance can be reduced by at most 3 times, and 740MX3=2.2G Therefore, in order to reach more than 2G, a new mode 3 sector with logical characteristics needs to be adopted. This is the limit of ordinary optical drive at present! The address of the mode 3 sector is represented by 16 instead of BCD code. 100 minute "high density CD format" can directly store 100 minute uncompressed CD music. If only 15 songs are played, you can support 5. 1 surround uncompressed music or 15 24-bit 48K high-quality music. In short, the "high-density disc format" will bring new fun to life immediately.
What is WDVD?
WDVD is made completely according to DVD standard. The video is encoded with low bit rate Mpeg2-2, and the audio is also encoded with Dolby AC-3 5. 1 track. Several movies have been made into several titles, and there are menus to choose from when they start playing. Each movie has one or more audio tracks, and each movie has multiple subtitles to choose from. If the picture quality is put aside, it is no different from ordinary DVD!
