Sanmenxia is located in the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River, connecting Henan and Shanxi provinces. Its right bank is Gaomiao Township, Hubin District, Sanmenxia City, Henan Province, and its left bank is Sanmen Township, Pinglu County, Shanxi Province. It is about1027km away from the Yellow River Estuary. Shidao stands in the middle of the river and divides the river into three parts: Sanmen River, Shenmen River and Renmen River, hence the name "Sanmenxia". 400 meters downstream of Sanmen, there are three stone islands, one of which stands in the stormy waves of the Yellow River, from which the "mainstay" comes.
