As an anesthesiologist, I can tell you responsibly that anesthesia, including anesthesia for any operation from small to large, is risky, and this risk is the highest among medical risks. It is reflected in the patient's own tolerance to anesthesia, tolerance to surgery and some force majeure (such as undiscovered allergic reaction, rare malignant high fever, etc.). ); At the same time, some anesthesia accidents will inevitably occur during anesthesia, which will cause serious death. But I can also tell you that in regular hospitals, anesthesia by anesthesiologists who have undergone systematic study and advanced studies is safer than anywhere else! In private, there is a saying in our industry: unless the anesthesiologist wants you to die, you can't die if you want to die at the hands of the anesthesiologist! This is a bit exaggerated. In fact, unless you are really brain dead or the organ failure is irreversible, the anesthesiologist can prolong your life and assist in the treatment.
Finally, let's talk about the sequelae. The narcotic drugs used now are almost as toxic as other drugs, but rational drug use will not leave any sequelae for any patients. The trauma of general anesthesia operation is small, and now the monitoring means are complete (I have to record at least 10 data such as blood pressure, heart rate, blood oxygen, inhaled anesthetic gas concentration, exhaled anesthetic gas concentration, exhaled CO2 concentration, respiratory frequency, tidal volume and inspiratory-expiratory ratio. When doing general anesthesia, you can look at the anesthesia record sheet of general anesthesia surgery in any hospital; In addition, there are three to five waveforms, including electrocardiogram, which need to be observed and analyzed from time to time. This is the safest anesthesia method in our opinion, and there will be no anesthesia sequelae. If there is a vegetative state after general anesthesia, it is because the previous monitoring means are not enough to accurately judge whether the patient is hypoxic, leading to irreversible brain damage caused by prolonged hypoxia. It is more likely that anesthesiologists are not responsible for their work (for example, the Sanmen incident in Fujian last year).
If a friend has finished the operation of general anesthesia and is awake, then there is no need to waste time and thoughts to worry about the sequelae of anesthesia, but stay happy and wait for recovery and discharge.
