The city has vast land, fertile soil, rich natural resources and abundant labor resources, and is rich in wheat, corn, grains, buckwheat, rape, flax, melons and vegetables, and fruit trees, and its food is more than self-sufficient. There are abundant forage grass resources, with 3.9 million mu of grassland in the city, including 2.8 million mu of natural grassland and 0/654,380+0000 mu of artificial grassland. Especially alfalfa, after long-term propagation, cultivation and domestication, has formed a unique alfalfa superior strain in Longdong, with excellent quality and high yield. The crude protein content is as high as 17%-2 1%. Cattle raising is a traditional industry of Pingliang farmers, and accumulated ancestral experience of raising cattle in different places with alfalfa, wheat straw and corn straw as coarse feed and corn, wheat bran and oil residue as fine feed. As for the breed of cattle, due to the border with Shaanxi, the livestock trade between Gansu and Shaanxi is frequent, and Qinchuan cattle were introduced into cities to cross with local cattle, forming hybrid cattle of different generations and Qinchuan cattle adapted to local environmental conditions. After long-term hybridization and careful selection by local people, the two groups formed a unique basic group of Pingliang Red Bull. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Party and the government began to continuously support county-run and community-run breeding stations from 1958, introduced a large number of Qinchuan cattle, and gradually improved local yellow cattle, and achieved good results. Since the reform and opening up, since 1979, the improved technology of artificial insemination of bovine frozen semen has been popularized in the whole province. At the same time, the frozen semen of foreign Limuxin cattle, German yellow cattle, Danish red bull, short-horned cattle and Qinchuan cattle was introduced for the economic hybridization of local cattle, which accelerated the pace of improvement, further improved the variety quality and promoted the dual-purpose and meat use of service cattle. Cattle-raising bases are growing and the variety structure is gradually optimized. By the end of 20001,the city had raised 502,500 cattle, and the commercial cattle were slaughtered142,300, ranking first in the agricultural area of the province. Among them, Qinchuan cattle and Qin crossbred cattle account for 80%, and other red crossbred beef cattle account for more than 15%.
