Lanzhou, formerly known as Jincheng, is the political, economic and cultural center of Gansu Province. It now governs three counties and five districts, with a total area of 1.3 1.000 square kilometers and a population of 3.3 million. Lanzhou is located at the intersection of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, Inner Mongolia Plateau and Loess Plateau, and is in the position of "four in one" in the northwest.

Lanzhou is the center of rich tourism resources in northwest China. Lanzhou is a bright pearl in the upper reaches of the Yellow River. The Yellow River runs through the city, creating the longest riverside road in China, which is the 40km Yellow River amorous feelings line in Lanzhou. There are the best-preserved Tusi Yamen, Zhongshan Railway Bridge, the first famous mountain in Longyou and Xinglong Mountain in China, as well as the national forest parks-Tulugou, Shifogou and Xujiashan. The surrounding tourism resources are more abundant, including Tianshui Mackey and Pingliang Kongtong Mountain in the east, Yongjing Bingling Temple in the west, Xiahebula Temple in the south and Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes in the north.

Lanzhou is an important transportation and communication hub in the northwest of China. Four railways, including Longhai, Lan Xin, Baolan and Lanqing, and six national highways, including 3 12#, meet here, and the expanded Zhongchuan Airport has more than 30 routes. Four optical cables, Xilanwu, Jinghu Yinlan, Lanxi (Ningla) and Lancheng, were opened one after another.

Lanzhou is an important commercial port in the northwest of China. There are more than 80,000 commercial service outlets and 323 markets in the city, including more than 30 markets with annual turnover exceeding 100 million yuan, which face the whole country and radiate to Gansu, Ningxia and Qinghai.

Lanzhou is a famous scientific, educational and cultural city in the northwest of China. The city has nearly 700 scientific research institutions represented by Lanzhou Branch of Chinese Academy of Sciences, 8 national key laboratories represented by heavy ion accelerators, and 8 institutions of higher learning represented by Lanzhou University, with nearly 300,000 professional and technical personnel.
