Shangguan Yi (about 608 ~ 664) was born in Shanxian (now Henan) and Jiangdu. At the beginning of Zhenguan, he was promoted to Jinshi, and was called to Hong Wen Pavilion to study for a bachelor's degree and transferred to the secretarial office. He often attended court banquets and participated in the compilation of the Book of Jin. Emperor Taizong sent an instrument to read the manuscript, and a private banquet was not unexpected. Tang Gaozong acceded to the throne, and Shangguan Yi became the assistant minister of West Taiwan, with the doctrine of East and West Taiwan. Shangguan Yi is outspoken and willing to remonstrate. He was jealous of Wu Shi's suggestion that Emperor Gaozong abolish Wu Zetian. In the first year of Linde (664), the defendant conspired with deposed Prince Liang Lizhong, and Shangguan Yi and his son Shangguan Tingzhi were executed at the same time, leaving no family. His granddaughter Shangguan Waner was the concubine of Li Xian, Tang Zhongzong. When Tang Zhongzong Li Xian ascended the throne, he was proved to be correct, and was reburied after his death as a secretariat, governor of Qin Zhou, duke of Chu and state ceremony.
