Jiaxing dragon and phoenix candle making technique was founded by Cheng Shouqi at the end of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty, and passed on directly to his granddaughter Cheng Guohua (born in 1929), which has been more than one hundred years. From the 28th to 29th year of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty (1902 to 1903), Cheng Shouqi, a native of Jiaxing, successfully explored the technology of making three-dimensional flower decorative candles. Because his original colored candles are suitable for festive occasions, they are welcomed by people. Cheng opened a Longxiang candle shop near Guanyin Bridge in Xincheng. The sales of candles were autocratic and the business was booming. From the late Qing Dynasty to 1949, Jiaxing Longfeng Candle Shop was the only one, enjoying a certain reputation in Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai. We not only accept customization, but also operate wholesale. Candle shops in Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai all wholesale goods from here. Even Huang, a famous tycoon in Shanghai at that time, specially sent someone to Jiaxing to order for his birthday.
The raw materials of candles are red candles, seed oil, ashes, beeswax, insect nests, pigments and beads; Producers have molds (pottery molds, wooden molds) and so on. Key points of production technology: firstly, put seed oil and a raw material collected from trees (according to Cheng Guohua and his son Cao Hairong, it may be a wormhole) into a pot, and then add wax for blending to increase the toughness of the wax. Then dyed with various colors, pressed (poured) into various forms of figures and flowers for use. Ornaments without ready-made molds must be engraved now. After the ornaments are finished, insert steel wires around the red candle one by one as required. It usually takes about a week to make a pair of candles. Production is seasonal. Wax products are easy to soften and deform in hot weather, so they are only made from Mid-Autumn Festival to early spring of the following year.
