Are there any fairy tales or ancient legends in Tongxiang, Jiaxing?
According to the legend circulating in Wuzhen, Xiao Tong, the son of Liang Wudi in the Southern Dynasties, was Prince Zhaoming. When Xiao Tong was just born, he clenched his fist in his right hand and couldn't straighten it. Neither the Eastern Palace Empress nor the ladies-in-waiting can break it. Liang Wudi is very worried about this. A minister said, "Why didn't the emperor post a list of famous doctors who treated diseases?" Liang Wudi thought it was reasonable, so he advertised: whoever can break the prince's hand, the prince will worship him as a teacher. When Shen Yue saw the announcement, he opened it and tried it. He took the prince's hand and parted gently. Liang Wudi was very happy, so he appointed Shen Yue as the prince's teacher, and the prince taught him to read. Shen Yue is from Wucheng. The tomb of his ancestors is near Shi Jingtang in the west of Wuzhen. Every year, Shen Yue Tomb-Sweeping Day goes back to his hometown to visit the grave and asks him to keep it for several months. Worried that his son would neglect his studies, Liang Wudi ordered Prince Zhaoming to follow Shen Yue to study in Wuzhen. To this end, a library was built in Wuzhen. When Xiao Tong came to Wuzhen, he saw peach blossoms in full bloom, birds singing and flowers fragrant, and the scenery was attractive, so he played all day. Shen Yue studied him very carefully. Seeing that the prince didn't study hard, he told him a story: "One winter, I went back to Wuzhen for the New Year. The sedan chair passed a temple in Qingzhen and was stopped by a group of people. I ordered the sedan chair to stop and ask. It turned out that a teenage beggar froze to death in the temple. The onlookers said that the little beggar's parents died early and were helpless. They begged along the street during the day and lived in the temple at night. But others are not poor. Except for food, all the money they get is used to buy books and read books under the glass lights of Buddhist temples at night. But one night, the northwest wind took away his young life. I entered the temple at that time. The little beggar had a thin face but good eyes. He lay on his back in a pile of straw, frozen stiff, with a book in his left hand. He is very interested in learning, and he will never forget to study until he dies ... "When Shen Yue said this, Prince Zhaoming was moved to tears. From then on, Prince Zhaoming studied hard and finally became a famous writer. Later, Shen Yue moved the main tomb to the capital, donated Wuzhen Mansion as An Baili Temple, and built Xiao Tong as a temple to become Miyin Temple. During the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, Quan Tingxun, a Tongzhi resident in Wuzhen, built a stone workshop in front of An Baili Temple, named "Legacy of the Six Dynasties". Shen Shimao, a villager, wrote the book "The Reading Office of Prince Liang Zhaoming and Shen Shangshu". This stone workshop is located in Zhaxi Scenic Area, Wuzhen, and has been well preserved so far. Local and nearby people often bring their children to pay tribute and educate them to study and achieve great success.
