I'll give you the detailed process.
In the Miao area in the northwest of Guizhou Province, in the past, when a wedding was held, the bride and groom had to perform a comedy to grab the cow's tail before the wedding. There is a folk song circulating among the Miao people in this area today:
A-mei was born to sing,
Advised me not to invite a matchmaker,
Really want to match my sister,
Sing folk songs at the flower dance.
What's the use of being rich and powerful,
It's hard to impress a-mei,
The matchmaker is full of empty words,
Not worth a bamboo flute.
These folk songs show that the love life of young Miao men and women is very free. You can get engaged by singing to both parties.
When both men and women are engaged, the woman's family will buy a yellow cow and feed it carefully. This cow is the bride and groom. When preparing for the wedding, they chop off the cow's tail and grab it. On the wedding day, both men and women will invite more than a dozen young guards. The guards of the woman's house tied the legs of the cow with ropes, and the crowd was packed. Everyone dressed up to entertain and watch the wonderful scene of grabbing the cow's tail. As soon as the man's house arrived, the bride cut off the oxtail with a knife. At this time, the groom immediately rushed up and grabbed the bride's oxtail. The woman's guards rushed forward to protect the bride and tried their best to stop the groom from catching the cow's tail. The guards brought by the groom are not afraid of weakness. They separate people and create chaos, so that the groom can succeed in the chaos. The battle for the cow's tail is very fierce. Until the bride's parents and relatives arrive. According to the traditional custom of Miao nationality, if the groom has grabbed the oxtail when his parents with new skills arrive, even if the groom has the ability, he will immediately announce the wedding: if the groom can't grab the oxtail, it means the wedding is ruined. But don't worry, the bride and groom are free to fall in love. Although the competition is fierce, the bride will try her best to let the groom catch the cow's tail when necessary, in order to make lovers get married. Sometimes marriage is arranged by parents, and both men and women have no feelings, so on the one hand, the man may be too lazy to grab it. On the other hand, the bride refuses to let go, and the wedding may not be held.
After the ceremony of grabbing the cow's tail, the witness slammed the cow's head with a mallet and killed it. Cut the beef into pieces and roast it on the fire. When the beef is cooked, give the bride and groom two pieces of beef first. The bride and groom generously walked out to propose a toast to the guests present, and the guests sang folk songs to congratulate them:
The groom is a man of steel,
Can lift heavy objects.
Not afraid of mosquitoes and dragons turning over huge waves,
Not afraid of evil tigers going down the mountain.
The bride is a clever wife,
Embroider hoes at night.
Food and clothing depend on hands,
Husband and wife love.
