Let's not talk about merit, but the role of chanting Buddha.

Generally speaking, Sanzang's law, classics and reason are the resources to realize the three studies of abstinence, determination and wisdom:

Legal collection-the amount of resources to achieve abstinence-based learning.

Classics and Tibet-the amount of resources to realize fixed learning.

On Tibet-the amount of resources to achieve wisdom.

Respectively, the main functions of chanting:

1, follow the text into the concept, and provide the "realm" of the concept in the practice of "stopping the concept". According to records, the wise master, the founder of Tiantai Sect, recited the Lotus Sutra for many years, and once recited the "Skill of the King of Medicine and Bodhisattva", and his body and mind became silent. When he saw "Lingshan was still there for a while", he entered the "Dharma and Samadha". From then on, the explanation is wide open, and the eloquence is unimpeded. Finally, he became a great master and founded Tiantai Sect, the first sect in China. Another example is the Endless Sutra of Viewing Life, which is the achievement of many great virtues in past dynasties and one of the fundamental classics founded by Pure Land Sect. Today, chanting Buddha is still the most convenient and steady practice method.

2, Zhixun, "One calendar is the root of the ear, and it will always be the Tao." For example, Huineng, the sixth ancestor of Zen, didn't know a word when he was not a monk. He became a monk after listening to others recite the Prajna Paramita Sutra. He even realized the Tao after listening to the five ancestors' interpretation of the Diamond Sutra, and finally achieved a physical bodhisattva and created Zen characterized by "chinese zen" and "Zuchan". All this was recited by his predecessor, Prajna Sutra. He learned it deeply, so he could smell it and realize it immediately.

3. Treat nausea, cultivate good thoughts and "purify your heart". For example, reciting scriptures that emphasize karma, such as the Wishing Sutra of Tibetan Bodhisattva, naturally leads to the idea of stopping evil deeds and doing good; When reciting the precepts such as Youposaijie Sutra, Sanskrit Sutra, Vanity Hidden Bodhisattva Sutra and Dingpuni Sutra, the thoughts of repentance and abstinence naturally arise. When reciting "Ten Directions of Huayan Sutra of Dafang Guangfo", with endless words of compassion, I gave up my life, and the thoughts of joy and affection suddenly came into being. Don't underestimate the "evil intentions" lurking in your heart, and don't underestimate the "good thoughts" that flash by. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, and the cause of good and evil sprouts in your mind.

4. Enter the role and get the blessing. "Buddha is the only one." When we are in a very engaged state of chanting, we completely forget ourselves and fully integrate into the Buddhist context; In this case, isn't the dialogue between Buddha and Bodhisattva just asking yourself and answering yourself? We play the roles of Buddha, Bodhisattva, Lohan, mortal, heresy and devil. It's wonderful to show ten dharma circles with one heart at the moment. In this situation, we have entered the role of Tibetan Bodhisattva and made a sad wish that "the hell is not empty, we will not become a Buddha, and all living beings will prove Bodhi"; We entered the role of Amitabha, made forty-eight wishes and attracted ten sentient beings; We entered the role of pharmacist Buddha and made twelve wishes for the benefit of all beings; We entered the role of Pu Xian and made endless wishes to practice all good laws; We entered the role of good children and visited all kinds of good knowledge, which was not arranged wholeheartedly.

As the Shurangama Sutra says:

"... suddenly surpassed the world, and gained two extraordinary victories: first, it combined the wonderful feelings of the ten Buddhas and had the same compassion as the Buddha; Both of them, together with all the six sentient beings in the ten directions, are the same sentient beings. ……"

5. Recite the Buddha's name and establish a complete study outline in your mind. For example, when we read Mahayana Sutra, Mahayana Sutra, Short Prajna Sutra and Prajna Paramita Heart Sutra, we read "ignorance, ignorance, even old age and death". In fact, we are telling us to learn the "Twelve Karma" method, but in the end, we have to recite the sentence "No suffering will destroy the Tao" from the height of Prajna. With the highly dialectical thinking of "negation of negation", it transcends the shackles of fame and wealth and appearances, reaches the essence of law, and so on. "All laws are broken, all laws are achieved", "all laws are not broken, and all laws are not used well".

In short, the merits of chanting scriptures are incredible and have countless heart-regulating effects. Some people read the Hua Yan Jing carefully for a few days. As a result, when they went out, they found that the trees on the earth were as crystal clear as precious trees. I believe that everyone who recites scriptures by heart will get incredible induction and enlightenment.
