The Origin of Gaomi Qiang Mao
Qiang Mao Opera belongs to the "Elbow Drum" series of Shandong local operas. Based on the folk rap form "Elbow Drum" of Han nationality, it absorbed the repertoire and performances of ancient painting Yangko, and gradually formed a vocal music system. Cihai Art Volume says: "Qiang Mao was formed by absorbing the music tunes and accompaniment instruments of Liuqin Opera on the basis of the Han folk song' Zhou Guzi' during the reign of Xianfeng and Tongzhi in Qing Dynasty."

In China, yangko, flower drum, tea song and lantern originated from Han nationality are the four major schools of folk song and dance in Han culture. Yangko in the north was very popular as early as the Song Dynasty, and it was recorded in Flowers in a Dream in Tokyo and Advocacy in Yangzhou. In the legend of Lian in the Wanli period of Ming Dynasty, the "Shandong girl tune" was recorded. In the Qing Dynasty, Li Shengzhen described it in detail in "Hundred Drama Zhi Zhu Ci": "Qi Opera is also called Maiden Tune, so it is the Suona Festival, and the song ends around the field." This performance form is basically the same as the early performance form of this elbow drum, except that the music of this elbow drum ends with gongs and drums. "Elbow-thigh", also known as "twist-thigh", refers to the form in which an actor twists his waist and legs in his performance, which is consistent with the dance movements of "three bends, nine moves and eighteen states" in Yangge. Others are called "Zhou Guzi", which is related to legend. According to legend, there was a nun named Zhou in the early Qing Dynasty, who was a secular nun. She is clever and good at singing. She often sings in the folk minor of the Han nationality, and combines the minor with the yangko and flower drum popular in Gaomi, Zhucheng, Anqiu and Linyi, forming a widely circulated tune, which has aroused the singing of farmers, especially women. So spread, formed over time. This theory has been recognized by researchers. According to Zhou's China Opera Series, Zhou Guzi is the myth of "elbow drum". To sum up, the early Qiang Mao opera was developed from the ancient painting yangko, and the "elbow drum" opera spread from west to east, which blended the local yangko and other forms of Han folk singing, and also derived the local language customs and aesthetic characteristics, also known as the "elbow drum". "Ben Elbow Drum" is also called "Oh Ha Yao" and "Old Melody Tune", which is named after its tune.
