The origin of Xingtai's name
The word Xing originally meant "well", and Kangxi Dictionary said, "A well comes out of a cave." In ancient Xingtai, hundreds of springs competed for each other, so it was called the well side. The Book of Changes says "Well is also a place of virtue". In ancient times, the Huangdi tribe once lived in dry rock hillock of Xingtai for farming, and the Book of Songs said, "Stay in the dry, drink in the ci". "The Yellow Emperor dug wells to gather people for the city". To commemorate the Yellow Emperor's virtue of digging wells and building cities here, the word "well" and "city" are used as words, which is the origin of Xing's name. Zu Ti moved to Du Xing in Shang Dynasty, sealed Guo Xing in Western Zhou Dynasty, and established Xingzhou in Sui, Tang and Song Dynasties.
