Notes on Gulliver's Travels

The artistic features of Gulliver's Travels are mainly reflected in the use of satire, and sharp and profound satire is the soul of this work.

Britain at that time was the object of attack and satire by the author. Gulliver's first adventure was in Lilliput. In this tiny country, partisan struggles are tense, and neighbors not only want to defeat but also enslave each other. The king of Lilliput used rope competitions to select officials. In order to get a few colored silk threads from the king, the officials did not hesitate to perform a clown-like absurd performance. This small court was the epitome of Britain at that time, and even the political habits and laws of Lilliputian were exactly the same as the British political situation at that time. In the second volume, the author even criticized Britain by name. Gulliver gave a detailed introduction to the history, system and present situation of Britain, as well as various matters of national self-defense to the King of Great Britain. But from the perspective of Great Britain, British history is full of "greed, competition, cruelty, hypocrisy, lust, sinister and ambition". In The King's Word, the author said that "such a humble and incompetent bug" was "the most harmful little poisonous bug crawling on the ground in nature", which satirized all aspects of British society. The third volume satirizes the pseudo-science in Britain at that time through the boring and absurd scientific research conducted by the people of the Lagardo Academy of Sciences. The description of the island of Lepita criticizes the British exploitation and oppression of Ireland.

The novel not only attacked the social status quo, but also directly satirized human nature itself at a deeper level. The fourth volume, the discussion about "money" is like this. Gulliver came to the country where there was no money, no army and no police, and explained to his horse owner, "The wild sheep there believe that the more money, the better. No matter whether it is used or saved, there is not enough time. Because of their nature, they are either extravagant or insatiable. The rich enjoy the fruits of the poor's labor, and the ratio of the poor to the rich is one thousand. Therefore, most of us are forced to live a miserable life ... ". The author is concerned about the pure money relationship between people in capitalist society. Thus questioning human nature.

When the author satirized and attacked the parliamentary politics and reactionary religious forces in Britain at that time mercilessly and bitterly, some of them bluntly ridiculed each other, some used foreigners' lips, some used metaphors to satirize people, and some used animals to satirize people. All this is interesting.

The organic combination of the fantasy of the plot and the authenticity of reality also adds unique artistic charm to the novel. Although the author shows a fictional fairy-tale magical world, it is based on the reality of British social life at that time. Because the author's description is accurate, delicate and appropriate, people don't think it is a fictional illusion, as if everything is true. For example, when describing the proportional relationship between villains and adults, people and things, they are all reduced or enlarged at a ratio of one to twelve. The villain in Lilliput is twelve times smaller than Gulliver; Adults in big countries are twelve times bigger than Gulliver. Gulliver's handkerchief can be used as a carpet for Lilliput Palace. A peasant woman's handkerchief in an adult country covered Gulliver and turned into a sheet. When describing the operation of the flying island, the architecture of the palace and the structure of the town, the author also deliberately used the knowledge and data of mathematics, physics, chemistry, astronomy and medicine. In this way, the authenticity, harmony and symmetry of the local details of the characters are transformed into the authenticity, harmony and unity of the whole picture and scene, which greatly enhances the realism and appeal of the works.

The author's writing is concise and clear. For example, it is written that Gulliver copied an official proclamation in Lilliput, praising the king as "king of kings", "standing in the center of the earth, with the sun overhead" and so on. Gulliver also quietly explained in brackets: "the circumference is about twelve miles." With this explanation, the boundless territory of "reaching the four poles of the earth" suddenly shrank into a tiny place of about ten miles. This contrast is hilarious. The words in brackets show the author's simple and realistic narrative style. It seems that he has no intention to comment, but he is objectively and faithfully explaining the scale of lilliput for us. He once declared: "I would rather tell ordinary facts in the simplest and simplest style, because I wrote this book mainly for you, not for entertainment."

Robinson Crusoe was written by British writer daniel defoe. This novel was written by the author at the age of 59 and enjoys the reputation of the first realistic novel in Britain.

I'd better talk about the content of this book and some inspiration I got from some chapters in it. Defoe described a series of adventure stories in the way of first-person narration and Robinson's own story telling, combined with his complicated psychological changes in the process of adventure. These unique experiences have become important conditions and inducing factors for his rebirth. At the same time, he also paid the price for his recklessness in his youth for nearly a lifetime. After living on an island for more than 20 years, he has gone through hardships. After being saved by God, he returned to a long-lost civilized society and found that everything in the past had changed greatly. After going through all the hardships, he chose land to escape the long voyage on the sea with horrible memories of himself. Although he had to make many detours, he finally crossed the English Channel and returned to England for a long time. However, this choice, that is, to make a detour to avoid long-distance sea voyage, only makes him "harvest" as "I am sure that I would rather sail at sea for even three miles in the future, and I will never walk those barren hills again if I encounter a storm once a week". I can't help laughing when I see this. Robinson lived a long life and dreamed of sailing adventures and gaining more wealth. Although he did have endless wealth in his life, he eventually got a disease of "being afraid of sailing and mountain roads" It's funny and ironic! Of course, this is an exaggeration, but it is also true. But if we go back to the forefront and think about it, if we didn't have high spirits when we were young and didn't accept the sincere advice of our loving father with a good family, would there be such a unique opportunity to sublimate our lives? No one can give an answer! Even the author Foday himself can't give it. If he can, we will never lose the inspiration and encouragement brought by this world cultural heritage in everyone's heart.

Some words of Robinson in the story also inspire me a lot. For example, when Robinson spent a lot of energy and time building a huge canoe that could hold more than 20 people, he found that it was impossible to push the canoe into the water by himself, so he came to the following conclusion: "This incident made me very sad. Only then did I understand that it is very difficult to do anything without considering the cost in advance and estimating my own strength correctly. But it's too late. " Some words are like this: "... In short, things and experiences have made me realize correctly that everything in the world is good, as long as it is useful, that's all." Anything that accumulates more should be given to others; What we can enjoy is only what we can digest at most ... "These are all useful to me and the same to anyone, so I mark these places in the book for later reading. This is also a way to review the past and learn new things.

Put down the book, I am not satisfied, I want to read it again in the original English! It is said that the original and the translation will always get different feelings, so feel the feelings ...!

I recently finished reading the book Water Margin. The Water Margin is one of the four classical novels. Author Shi Naian is a novelist in the late Yuan Dynasty and early Ming Dynasty. It can be said that this book has become a household name, known to all women and children.

The Water Margin is a long masterpiece reflecting the peasant uprising. The book focuses on the dark society in which traitors were in power and the people were poor in the late Northern Song Dynasty. Summarized the struggle road of different people from awakening to resistance in the long feudal society at that time. The stories are interlocking and fascinating. This article has created many vivid characters and exciting events. Such as: simple Lin Chong, Song Wu, who hates evil, Wu Yong, who is quick-thinking ... avenge his brother, Lu rebelled against the bully, and Lin Chong humiliated the bully ... These people, vivid romance produced an epic legend.

The characters of the four characters in Water Margin are very typical.

One is Lu. In this paper, Zheng Tu, who opened a butcher shop, an oil sauce shop and a colorful silk shop, finally became an amphibious Dojo. After reading it, people are all infected by the author's strong love and hate for the protagonist Lu Da, clapping their hands and applauding. He is generous and values righteousness over wealth. For example, he asked Shi Jin to give it to Jin Lao. When he heard what happened to Jin Lao's father and daughter, he put all the five taels of silver he had brought on the table and borrowed money from Shi Jin and Jong Li to help him escape. Jong Li was not happy. He only found two pieces of silver and returned it to him. He hates evil and is brave and fearless. This is the same trait as the water margin hero. Lu Da's punching in Kansai town fully illustrates this point. He has a bad temper and is cautious. If he can't stand it after hearing the cries of the old father and daughter Jin, he will kill Zheng Tu soon. However, his arrangement to rescue Kim's father and daughter is very thorough and thoughtful. This also reflects his shortcomings of anxiety and irritability, such as hearing the crying next door in a restaurant, "throw all the plates and lights on the floor." He is brave and resourceful, bold and cautious. He saved Kim's father and daughter regardless of the risk; Playing with Zheng Tu is not afraid of violence; Avoiding disaster is quite witty. These are all vividly written. Lu Da is coarse and fine, which is different from Li Kui jy and Song Wu. All kinds of personality combinations make him the perfect character in the book. Judging from Lu's life thought, there are actually many people who need help. Although people don't need to work as hard as Lu, they are often reluctant to do even small things, such as giving their seats to the elderly and helping the blind cross the road. Therefore, I think Lu's spirit of helping others is still worth learning.

The second is Li Kui jy. Compared with Lu, jy obviously has the commonness of the characters in the book, that is, vulgarity. And completely thick, completely thick. But it is this trait that makes him full of rebellious spirit, daring to fight and desperate. This makes me think Li Kui jy is very cute. And Li Kui jy's loving mother and loyal spirit, which makes me admire.

The third is Lin Chong. Lin Chong's personality is obviously different from that of Li Kui jy. Lin chong has an obvious concession. Gao Yanei tried several times to commandeer his wife, but he just put up with it. It was not after the "Snow Mountain Temple" World War I that Lin Chong was forced to serve in Liangshan. So Lin Chong became the most tragic figure.

Finally, Song Jiang, the leader of the main characters in the book. The ebb and flow of the water margin uprising almost all depended on Song Jiang's decision. Song Jiang's loyalty to people made others admire him and elected him as the leader, which laid the foundation for his decision to be accepted. However, he was bent on serving the court. I didn't know that the court's hatred of Liangshan heroes led to the tragic ending of Liangshan uprising. The duality of his revolution and compromise led to the tragedy, which made Song Jiang the most annoying person after the imperial traitor.

The Water Margin reveals the irreconcilable contradiction between the people and the ruling class, shows the moving scene that poor peasants are forced to gather in Liangshan and take up arms to fight, and reflects the limitations and tragedy of peasant uprising in feudal society, which makes me learn a lot and see a lot, reminds me of the historical story of "the people violently drove the king" and makes me clearly realize the great power hidden among the people. Li Shimin, the enlightened emperor of the Tang Dynasty, put it well: "Water can carry a boat and overturn it!" It means that water can carry a boat and also overturn it. Only by treating others like yourself can more people respect you.

"Water Margin" tells the heroic story of 108 heroes headed by Song Jiang, from Juyi Liangshan Bo to Yamen, to the defeat of Liao soldiers, and finally to wipe out the rebels. After reading the whole book, the word loyalty and righteousness lingered in my mind.

Loyalty means doing your best for your motherland, your relatives and friends around you. Song Jiang is still loyal to the motherland under various threats and inducements, which is loyalty; Lin Chong's wife humiliated Gao Qiu's son after Lin Chong was forced to rebel. She would rather die than surrender, and finally hanged herself. This is also loyalty.

Righteousness includes two aspects: one hundred and eight brave people go through fire and water for their brothers and friends, which is righteousness; Anti-violence and peaceful people are also righteous. To live up to the word "righteousness", we must have considerable courage, and even the determination to exchange one life for another.

People who can achieve "righteousness" are people with noble spirit. Ancient and modern, Chinese and foreign, how many heroes, died for righteousness. Aren't they afraid of death? They can risk their lives for righteousness and truth. A person who does not believe in the word "righteousness" will not understand this.

Apart from admiring the words loyalty and righteousness embodied in the story, I am a little insensitive to some scenes in the story. Revenge for my brother and kill my sister-in-law and Song Wu of Ximen Qing; His blood spilled on the mandarin duck upstairs, and he took it out on others, even watching the horses ... after all, it's human life, how precious it is. Even if his sister-in-law cheated, he wouldn't have to pay with his life. The old man watching the horse has no resentment against Song Wu. Is it necessary to kill innocent people like this?

The words "loyalty" and "righteousness" embodied in the story are touching, but in the current legal society, it is not advisable to solve everything by force like Song Wu. Therefore, due to the changes of the times, we can only look at this book from the perspective of appreciation, and we must not blindly learn how to do things.
