Master Liu from Jinan, Shandong Province is an old driver with 10 years driving experience. In June 2007, he drove a brand-new Toyota Camry, but this car caused him to have five rear-end accidents in just one year.
Mr. Sheng, who had the same experience as Master Liu, bought a Toyota Camry in July 2007, and the brakes failed after driving for less than three months.
The inspection found that the cause of the accident of both car owners was brake failure. The Defective Product Management Center of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine randomly selected and investigated 200 Camry owners, and found that the main problems were brake failure, hardening, sticking and abnormal noise, among which more than 15% of consumers had dangerous situations and traffic accidents.
However, in the failure detection report of automobile brake booster submitted by GAC Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. to AQSIQ, GAC Toyota insisted that "part of the failure of automobile brake booster is not a safety defect" because there is a phenomenon of "air leakage when stepping on the brake pedal" and the driver "can easily perceive the occurrence of abnormality, and the risk can be safely eliminated and limited after perception".
