Su Chi's Inheritance of Lantern Painting
Anyang Lantern Festival is widely spread in counties in northern Henan, but the Su Qi Lantern Festival, made by Su Shouan, an artist among villagers in Su Qi, Yonghe Township, Anyang County, is the most famous. Su Shouan, an old artist, was born disabled, young and smart, and taught himself a little. Because of his physical disability, he can't go to work in the fields. Poor life forced him to learn how to print and dye homespun, and his best skills were playing lanterns and drawing lanterns. The lanterns he made are small and strong; The opera characters, birds and animals he portrayed are vivid, and the pictures he painted are bright and transparent. In decades of long-term artistic practice in selecting materials, he has summed up a set of mature and complete experiences in observing life, choosing themes, tying lantern skeletons, color matching, paper selection and carving techniques. Now, he has passed on the whole set of skills to his son Su Jiashun. Suki Lantern has a new successor.
