The most classic combination of "Laowu Class" in northern Shaanxi suona is: two suonas with one person (i.e. tenor guide) and one person (also called "pull tube"), and the rhythm is determined by the challenged tambourine (from one rhythm to the other). Other musical instruments include bronze drums (also called milk gongs), trombones, cymbals and small hand plates (also called "hand tiles"). The five members of the Old Five Class who participated in the live performance were Chang, Liu Shancai, Shen Guanglin, Chang Xiaochuan and Du. Among them, Mr. Lin of Guang Shen is 74 years old and plays drums for several generations of famous suona artists.
The so-called Suimi suona actually refers to Suide suona and Mizhi suona. Suide and Mizhi counties are adjacent, with many suona players, superb skills and authentic charm. In particular, the bank of Changjiashi in Mizhi County was once the birthplace of suona in northern Shaanxi according to historical records.
Suimi suona is rich in qupai, and folk artists usually play in local tune, universal tune and A tune, which are collectively called "three tunes and one tune". In addition, there are some other keys, such as clubs and cross keys.
In 2006, Suimi Suona was listed in the national intangible cultural heritage list. At present, Li Qishan, the national non-genetic inheritor of Mizhi County, has passed away, and two provincial inheritors are Zhang and Liu Shancai. There is a national non-genetic inheritor Wang Shifa in Suide County.
