Why is Hongdong in Shanxi called Hongdong?
Today's Hongtong County on the 2nd floor was formed on April 9th, 1954 by the merger of the original Hongtong and Zhao Cheng counties with the approval of the State Council. At that time, it was customary to take the initials of two counties and name them Zhao Hong County, but 1958 was changed to Hongdong County. The purpose of this change may be to take into account the extensive influence of the history of Sophora japonica immigrants in Hongtong County on the people in northern China and the feelings of hundreds of millions of immigrants' descendants for their homeland, so the historical and cultural brand of "Hongtong" was specially retained.

The original Hongdong County was called "Yang" in the early Western Zhou Dynasty, which was named after the ancient Yang people lived here. The word "Yang" in the inscriptions of the Western Zhou Dynasty looks like a man holding a weapon and dancing to the sun. Experts speculate that Guyang people are a tribe that worships the sun god. In the early years of the Western Zhou Dynasty, Zhou Wenwang's illegitimate son Boqiao was named Yang Hou (Zhou Xuanwang's son was named Yang Zhi by his father). According to historians' research, in ancient times, people surnamed Yang moved south from here in the Western Zhou Dynasty, and all the way to the vicinity of Yangzi Mountain in Fangxian County, Hubei Province, where the country of Yangzi was established and the county of Yangzi was established in the south. Later, it moved eastward to Jiangsu, leaving Yangzhou, Yangtze River and other related place names. Living with Yue people in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, Yang Yue in the Spring and Autumn Period was formed. During the Warring States Period, the activities of Yang Yue people had reached Lingnan. Guangzhou myths and legends tell the story of five immortals riding five sheep with ears of grain to create five Yangcheng, which is actually a historical reflection of the development of Guangzhou by Yang Yue people. From this point of view, as early as 3000 years ago, Hongdong County began to immigrate, and the scope of immigration was farther and wider than that of the early Ming Dynasty. What's more, overseas Chinese are Yang Hou, and their descendants have been hereditary for four or five hundred years. When Yang Houguo was destroyed, he was named as the younger brother of Duke Jin. Now, Yang became a fief of Uncle Xiang, who took the city as his surname and changed his surname to Yang. Yang Xiong, a scholar in the Han Dynasty, said in his autobiography: "Uncle eats Yang, lives, eats me, and takes Yi as his surname." It shows that Hongdong is also the birthplace of Yang's surname, and in ancient times, Yang and Yang were commonly used words, and Yang and Yang's surnames came from the same ancestor. At the end of the Spring and Autumn Period, the private forces of the State of Jin gradually grew, constantly attacking the old nobles such as the sheep tongue and the State of Qi. In the first 5 14 years, the new forces wiped out the Yangtongzu and divided its fiefs into Yang, Pingyang and Tong? Among the three counties, Liao An is the doctor of Yangjia County. This is the earliest county in Hongtong County. Yang County was established here in the Western Han Dynasty, and the county is located in Donggu Village, Hongtong County today (in the southeast of Fancun).

In the Eastern Wei Dynasty, due to the needs of the war, the garrison castle "Hongdongwei" was built 25 miles north of Yangxian County, also known as "Hongdong Town", and the name of Hongdong appeared from then on. This place name is also recorded in ancient books, such as Yao Zui's "Preface to Travel": "In the five years of Zhou Jiande, I discussed my teacher on my own, and then I went to Hongdong, which was close, repeated on all sides, and checked the danger. Zhang, Qi Huangong led the troops, and the meat armor was bare. Please surrender. " Another example is "History of the North": "Zhou Zhu went to Jinzhou, Yu Wenxian attacked, and pulled out the finches and rats from Hongdong." The "Hongdong" in these historical materials refers to the military fortress Hongdong Town, which is located in Shangjiluo, Hongdong County today.

In the first year of Sui Yining (6 17), Li Yuan set off for Taiyuan and went south to Huoyi. When crossing Yang County, because its county name and Emperor Yangdi's surname were both "Yang", Yang County was changed to Hongdong County, named after the ancient Hongdong.

Speaking of the meaning of Hongdong, according to local records, it was named after Hongya Cave, where fairies lived in ancient legends. This explanation is obviously too far-fetched I remember that Mr. Hao Shuhou expressed his views. He thought: "The flood is a big water, and the cave is a rapids, because it is close to the Fenhe River, which is described as rough waves." Many people agree with this. In ancient books, "Hongdong" is also called "Hongdong". The original intention is to describe the flood, such as "The Original Road of Huainanzi": "(Water) swings wildly and is in harmony with heaven and earth." Sometimes it also describes strong winds, such as Wang Ziyuan's "Ode to the Cave and the Flute" in the Han Dynasty: "The wind is full of holes but never stops". I think the Eastern Wei Dynasty should set up a military town here, build Hongdong, and show its military strength with the momentum of Hongbo.

Hongtong County is the former Zhaocheng County in the north, and the origin of "Zhao Cheng" is quite long. In the Western Zhou Dynasty, there was a very capable driver named Zhao Fu in Zhou Muwang. According to legend, when Zhou Muwang went to the Western Ocean, Zhao Fu drove eight good horses straight to Kunlun. Later, I saw the Queen Mother of the West, heard of the rebellion, fought thousands of miles with him, marched eastward to Xu, and crushed the rebels. Zhao Fu was named Zhao Cheng for this military service. The original meaning of "Zhao" is flying, and the place name of "Zhao Cheng" is named after its achievements in Zaofu thousands of miles away. Like many ancient names, such as "Jin" is to show good marksmanship; "Zhou" is based on Hou Ji's "The Harvest of Grains"; "Chu" is a place name to commemorate the ancestors' origin in the mountains, which was produced to commemorate their achievements or reflect their cultural characteristics. Zhao Fu's descendants take Zhao as their surname and respect Zhao as their native place.

The original Zhaocheng County belonged to Kui Xian, Yong 'an and Huoyi counties from Han to Sui. In the first year of Sui Yining (6 17), it was divided into Zhaocheng County and merged with Hongdong County in 1954.

Hongtong county is connected to Huoyue in the west and fenshui in the east. It is famous for its magnificent mountains and rivers, people's fortitude and simple folk customs. Therefore, it is necessary to call it "Hong Tong".
