Xiliang, also known as Liangzhou, is now Wuwei City, Gansu Province, which means "located in the west, it is often cool and often cool". Liu Che, Emperor of the Western Han Dynasty, incorporated it into Chinese territory. It was occupied by Yue and Xiongnu before the Western Han Dynasty. Later, Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty established Wuwei County in ancient Tibet, belonging to Liangzhou.
In 400 AD, Gui Li, a Han nationality, was called "Liang Gong" in Dunhuang. In 405, he moved the capital to Jiuquan and approached Beiliang. The territory is in today's China, western Gansu and Xinjiang. In 4 17, King Wu Zhao died and his son Li Xin succeeded him. In 420, Li Xin was killed in a battle with Beiliang, and his brother Li Xun, the governor of Dunhuang, succeeded to the throne in Dunhuang. However, the following year, the Northern Liang army surrounded Dunhuang, and Li Xun was defeated and committed suicide after begging for surrender.
Xiliang therefore died in Beiliang. Gui Li, King of Wu Liangzhao, was revered as the ancestor by the royal families of Tang Dynasty, including Shi Li, Li Bai and Li Shangyin. Because the area ruled by the ancient government was Liangzhou, the country name was "Liang" and it was located in the west of Liangzhou, so it was named "Xiliang". In its heyday, it covered Jiuquan and Dunhuang in western Gansu and Congling in Xinjiang in the west. After three masters, * * * twenty-two years.
The historical position of Xiliang;
The geographical location of Liangzhou is very important. Lanzhou in the east, Xinjiang in the west, mountains far away, and deserts all around. "The first line is connected with the desert, and the throat of five counties is gripped." Gulang Gorge is known as the "Golden Gate and Silver Lock" in western China. Its narrowest place is only a few meters wide. One person guards it, and 10,000 people can't force through it, thus leaving many stories.
The western part of Liangzhou is Qilian Mountain, the eastern part is Tengger and Badain Jaran Desert, and the central part is the "Hexi Corridor" in geography books. Grasping Liangzhou means grasping the throat of the Silk Road. Liangzhou, because of its important geographical position, has become an important town of the Silk Road and a city of economic exchanges, which also determines its profound cultural accumulation. Liangzhou has been relatively stable since ancient times.
