Xichang Torch Square Location
Torch Square is located in the center of Xichang. In the huge circular square, 56 red torch-shaped columns are erected, each of which is carved with a totem, symbolizing the great unity of 56 ethnic groups in China. The flame-like national cultural center reflects the tall iron fire totem and shows the worship, pursuit and love of fire by more than 4 million Yi compatriots. Every year on June 24th of the lunar calendar, tens of thousands of Liangshan Yi people gather here to hold the annual "Du Ze" ceremony-Torch Festival. By then, 56 giant torches will have a high fever and hundreds of thousands of torches will be blazing. "Whoever smashes the sun, the stars all over the world will fall." The whole Xichang city will be brightly lit, dancing dragons and snakes, shining on the night of the ancient city, and the fire will set off the blue waves of Qionghai. During the festival, boys race horses, fight bullfights, grab sheep and wrestle, and girls compete in singing, beauty contests, costume contests and "dancing with flowers". This is not only the "Oriental Carnival" for the Yi people to release their feelings and perform their talents, but also the "Oriental Valentine's Day" for young men and women to pursue beauty and love, with three days and three nights of endless joy. In the minds of Yi people, fire is indeed a kind of light, a poem, a kind of strength, a kind of spirit and a symbol of a better life. The Yi people in the world advocate fire, which is not only a primitive totem worship, but also a yearning and pursuit of happiness.
