Guangde's Chinese New Year custom
Guangde's custom of celebrating the New Year:

1, to the chef

People who moved to Guangde from Henan, Hubei, Shaoxing, Wenzhou and other places, together with the old locals in Guangde, sent the kitchen god on the 23rd or 24th of the twelfth lunar month, which is also called "off-year". The procedure of sending the Kitchen God is to tear off the image of the Kitchen God on the hearth tablet and put it on a tray, and then put on sacrifices such as three meats, three vegetables, firecrackers, incense, paper and so on. The locals also fried a piece of Baba, saying that Kitchen God ate Baba paste and shut up. He won't talk nonsense when he meets the Jade Emperor in heaven. In addition, the locals also said that "men don't go to Yue Bai, and women don't send kitchen gods". It means that the moon is a symbol of women and is not worthy of men's respect. Moreover, women usually talk a lot and can't control their mouths. They are afraid that she will talk nonsense in front of the kitchen god, make the kitchen god angry and bring bad luck to the family! Therefore, when sending the Kitchen God, women are not allowed to intervene, and they are all operated by men. After the Kitchen God is sent to heaven, the same ceremony will be held on New Year's Eve, and a new statue of Kitchen God will be erected to invite Kitchen God back. It is said that the kitchen god has been in heaven for several days, and there is no god's jurisdiction on earth. The locals call it "rushing out of chaos", that is to say, everything among the people is forgiven these days. Henan people do not deliberately stick to the kitchen god, but exist in their minds. When they are cooking, the words "Fu" and "Patience first" have been written on the stove to remind housewives not to get angry when they stop cooking or lack oil and salt, which will make the stove owner angry. During the New Year, they provided a bowl of tofu and a few small fish for Jujube, which means that we are all rich and have some savings, so that Jujube Ye Can can report good news to heaven instead of bad news.

2, paste couplets:

In the past, Guangde locals did not post Spring Festival couplets during the Spring Festival, but posted portraits of Qin and Weichi Gong, who were the guards of the kings of the Tang Dynasty. It means to worship and worship historical figures. Moreover, the images of the two brave men are awesome, and they are attached to the door with aura, which can protect the home and courtyard and ward off evil spirits. At the same time, there is also the god of wealth with "lucky money and treasure" on it. Later, influenced by foreigners, they also posted couplets. But there are not as many rules as foreigners. They just put them on the doors and don't put them anywhere else. Outsiders are different, not just on the big and small doors, but everywhere in front of and behind the house. Moreover, the contents of Spring Festival couplets are all targeted. The couplet referring to the kitchen god is: "Heaven says good, and it is auspicious to come down to earth." It means that the kitchen god should say more good things in heaven and bring more good luck in the underworld. Land Lord's couplet is: "Jade is born in the earth, and gold is longer than the earth". The moral is that as long as you are willing to work hard, you can gain something in the soil. The couplet of the master of heaven and earth is: "The sky is high above all things, and the earth is thick and full of people." Although these words are simple, everything between heaven and earth is included. The big tree in the hospital was also posted: "The roots are deep". Wall: Beautiful Spring. Bedside in the room: "happiness and health". Kitchen: "frugal". Even chicken nests, duck pens and cowsheds have to be posted: "chickens and ducks are full of pens, and cattle and sheep are in groups." In short, red couplets should be posted everywhere. This is the difference between foreigners and locals in Guangde.

It is reported that most of the residents who migrated from other places did not have the habit of hanging up nave, and what they provided in their rooms was the words "the ancestor Zhao Mu is in a divine position". The incense table is a pair of candlesticks and eight incense burners. On New Year's Eve, in addition to offering sacrifices to the gods and ancestors, eight incense burners are burned all night from the first day of the first month to the fifteenth day of the Lantern Festival, and some are burned until dawn, and after the Lantern Festival, the dragon heads up on February 2. Different from the local people in Guangde, there are no words "ancestors show gods" above their rooms, but the main halls such as landscape, birthday girl, Guan Yu, God of Wealth, Zhong Kui and Song He Yannian are hung. There is also an incense table on the altar: there are a pair of candle stands and an incense burner. On New Year's Eve, in addition to offering sacrifices to gods and ancestors, incense is only burned for three days, that is, from the first day to the third day. Usually burn incense on the first and fifteenth day of the lunar calendar to ensure the peace and happiness of the whole family all year round. However, the old Guangde people have their own characteristics. On New Year's Eve, they all go to the temple with pig heads in their hands to burn incense, and they all strive to burn the first incense and shoot the first shot! It means that the family will be more prosperous in the new year.

have one's head shaved clean—score no points in a game

Old locals are also very particular about shaving their heads during the New Year. They don't shave their tails, which is the last head shaved by a barber in a year. It is said that shaving your tail will bring bad luck in the coming year. At the same time, in the first month of the Spring Festival, I don't shave my head. I said it was unlucky to shave your head first in 2008, and I will shed my skin if I don't die this year. In traditional folk customs, the old place in Guangde also pays attention to "bathing in the New Year", which is known as the proverb "twenty-seven washes the disease, twenty-eight washes the sloppy". There are also twenty-six kinds of sayings of "Shirouf". The old Guangde people called the New Year "Year Tide". Call the first day "Three Dynasties", which means year, month and day. And don't sweep the floor from the first day to the third day, for fear of disturbing the land god. Don't splash sewage outside the house, it will splash away the wealth, and you are afraid of splashing it on the head of "Tai Sui", which will lead to great disaster. Don't wash clothes in the river: the pollution of washing to Tianhe will affect the health of the wearer. Don't move the kitchen knife, for fear of getting into trouble. Don't eat porridge or soup, lest it rain outside. In addition, if you don't work on the fifth day, your work will block the fortune of the whole year. In a word, the whole custom is centered on blessing and eliminating disasters.

4. Happy New Year

The customs of the old Guangde people are different from those of foreigners, but there are also similarities: there are vigils and fires on New Year's Eve, and the bigger the fire, the better. It means that the coming year will be prosperous. The family gathered around the fire cage to keep warm and watch. Eat "Yuanbao Soup" (jiaozi or wonton) until midnight. After putting down the New Year's greetings, we should increase the fire and burn it before going to bed. Set the chairs and benches, and let the ancestors come back to warm up and chat together. The fire in the cage is unbreakable, and it burns at the beginning of the month, which means that the fire spreads and the descendants are one after another. The first day of New Year's greetings is also very particular. The villagers shouted "Happy New Year" from door to door before entering the door. Don't come in until the host comes out to meet you! It is said that in Shang Dynasty, a monster named Nian appeared in the world, which was extremely fierce. Every time it comes out to eat people on New Year's Eve, countless people eat it, and it takes 365 days to eat it once. This is what happens at the turn of the new year. After a long time, people get discouraged when they hear "nian"! Therefore, this day is regarded as "year-end", and villagers in all villages have to knock on doors on the first day of the first month. See if anyone ate anyone, show concern! In this way, year after year, after a long time, people call these ceremonies "New Year greetings". Not only the neighbors in the village, but also relatives should go and see if they have been eaten by Nian! At that time, people were afraid to pay New Year greetings, because they didn't know which one would be eaten by Nian! Therefore, every family does not dare to enter the door easily, so they can only stand outside and shout until the owner comes out. It takes a long time to become a habit! How to subdue monsters is a big worry for Zhuang people. Later, I don't know who had an idea to organize all the Zhuang people in each village, concentrate them in an empty Yuan Ye, pile up dry wood, bamboo and miscellaneous wood, and burn a raging bonfire. The flames are blazing, and the dark night sky is red! Bamboo, in particular, crackled after the fire. Gezhuang men, women and children around their own fire to keep warm and avoid disaster! Armed with axes, hoes, machetes and other sharp tools, strong workers are waiting for the arrival of monsters and ready to fight with death! This monster named Nian is afraid of light and fire, especially the explosion of bamboo burning. Seeing these scared, I trembled, dared not approach, and shrank back. On the first day of the first month, people went door to door to pay New Year greetings, but no one was eaten by Nian. Later, people began to develop firecrackers. On New Year's Eve, every household posted couplets, set fires, hung red lights and fired guns. From then on, this monster named Nian never dared to come out and eat people again. But "Happy New Year" has become a custom of people, which has spread to the present.

5. Lantern Festival

Since Nian was inadvertently surrendered, the world is at peace! In order to celebrate this grand feat, the fifteenth day of the first month of each year is designated as the "Lantern Festival", and every household is decorated with lanterns. Some people even go to ancestral graves to burn paper and send lanterns to relatives who were eaten by Nian to express their memory and commemoration of their deceased relatives. The old locals in Guangde used to send lanterns, but the county government banned them because they sent lanterns to burn mountains. Later, the Lantern Festival became more and more popular. People organized young people to play with lions, row dry boats, dance dragon lanterns, walk on stilts, dance yangko and guess riddles on lanterns.
