The origin of "tunnel blasting" can be traced back to Qing Dynasty. According to historical records, at that time, zhouning county firecrackers were sold to northern Fujian. After a long time, many fireworks would deteriorate. Therefore, the local people are reluctant to throw away the deteriorated fireworks, thinking that this is a warning from the mountain god. Therefore, before setting off fireworks, people must first express their sacrifices and prayers. Later, this tradition continued and gradually formed the custom of "tunnel shooting".
With the development of society, the cultural customs in many places have gradually faded, but "tunnel shooting" has been preserved and even revived. At present, fireworks and firecrackers are still set off on major festivals such as Spring Festival and Harvest Festival in zhouning county every year to show respect and commemoration for the mountain gods. Although "tunnel blasting" is no longer confined to Ningde in today's society, the significance of this traditional custom has been recognized and respected by people, which has also become a modest contribution to national culture.
