The characters move in the middle of the picture, which happens to be the visual center of the viewer: Hongliang sits on the couch, the books on the bamboo case are spread out horizontally, Meng Guang kneels on his knees, and the dishes and lamps hold Qi Mei high. The hero's manner is calm and peaceful. Although his house is humble and he eats rough clothes, Shan Ye's hermit's noble interest is admirable.
