Plato experienced the most famous "futile act" in history before being understood by people. At the age of sixty, Plato was invited to leave Asia to tell Dionysus I, the son of Dionysus I, how to establish an ideal country.
Plato decided to start with geometry teaching. He believes that geometry will help George W. Dionysus master strict reasoning skills and deal with more complicated problems in political reform. So the course began, and Dionysus Jr. and his court staff took part in the "study". But this enthusiasm soon disappeared.
Dionysus Jr. likes Plato and excitement, but he just doesn't like geometry. People don't understand why they have to learn such a difficult subject as geometry. Opponents of Plato took the opportunity to find another philosopher for George W. Dionysus. Faced with people's incomprehension and opposition's rejection, Plato finally had to flee the palace at night and return to Youdian by long boat, thus hastily ending this futile trip.
2. Plato died
In his long life, Plato lived quite happily in his later years. At this time, he was full of peaches and plums and was revered by people from all directions. His students love him as he loves his own students.
When a student got married, Plato was warmly invited to the wedding reception. Plato, who was eighty years old, arrived as promised and happily joined the carnival crowd. As the happy time passed, the philosophical old man retreated to a quiet corner and sat in a chair. He wanted to have a rest and people didn't bother him.
The next morning, when the party was over and the tired revelers came to wake him up, they found that he had passed away peacefully at night. The whole city of Athens was abandoned and he was sent to the cemetery.
3. The story of Socrates and Plato
Plato asked his teacher Socrates one day what love was. Socrates told him to go to the Woods once or go back. He had to pick the most beautiful flowers on the road, but only once.
Plato found it easy and went out safely, but he didn't go back after a long time. Finally, he appeared in front of the teacher in frustration and told the reason why he left empty-handed: it is difficult to see a seemingly good flower, but I don't know if it is the best, because I can only pick it once, so I have to give up and see if there is a better one. Only then did I find that I had reached the end, only to find that there were no flowers in my hand.
Socrates told him: this is love. In love, we always pursue the perfection of the other half, but forget our own imperfections, so we finally return empty-handed. The fundamental way to solve this problem is to follow fate: what you meet is the best.
4. Plato waved his arm
Socrates was a great philosopher in ancient Greece. One day, he said to his students, "Today, we only learn the simplest and easiest thing to do, that is, throw your arm forward as far as possible and then throw it back as far as possible." Then I demonstrated it myself. "From now on, I will swing my arm 300 times a day. Can everyone do it? "
Students may find this question ridiculous. How can such a simple thing not be done? Everyone replied in unison: "Yes!" After a month, Socrates asked, "Who insists on swinging his arm 300 times a day?" More than 90% of the students raised their hands proudly.
Two months later, when he mentioned the problem again, only 80% of the students persisted. A year later, Socrates asked, "Please tell me, which students insist on doing the simplest swing arm exercise every day?" At this time, only one student raised his hand. This student was Plato and later became another great philosopher in ancient Greece.
5, Plato weeding
One day, the philosopher Plato took his disciples to a field full of weeds with a book in his hand and sat on the ground. Plato began to speak: "Today, we have a class here, and I want to ask my disciple a question." The disciples were surprised and asked, "Master, what questions do you want to ask us?"
Plato said slowly, "Disciples, please talk about how to get rid of weeds in this land?" "Shovel them off with a shovel," said a disciple. Another disciple went on to say, "Master, you can burn these weeds." The third disciple immediately said, "Sprinkle a lot of lime on this grassy ground." "Get rid of the grass." The fourth disciple said confidently.
At this time, Plato said slowly and meaningfully, "Disciples, when you go back, remove a weed in your own way, and we will meet again here one year later."
A year later, all the disciples came, only to find that the place where they met was no longer overgrown with weeds, but became a crop field full of millet. The disciples sat down in the open space in front of the valley and waited for Plato's arrival, but Plato never came.
Decades later, Plato died. When his disciples sorted out his remarks, they added a chapter at the end of the book: "There is only one way to eradicate weeds in the wilderness, and that is to plant crops on them. Similarly, if you want to make your mind worry-free, the only way is to occupy it with virtue ... "
