As of April 20 19, Daoyun Building, located in Nanlian Village, Sanrao, Raoping County, Chaozhou City, Guangdong Province, is the largest earth building found in China and the largest octagonal earth building found in China.

Development history:

During Chenghua period of Ming Dynasty, the ancestors of residents of Daoyun Building asked surveyors to choose a site to build the building. The surveyor came here for the first time and thought it was a good place. After careful consideration, he traveled dozens of kilometers and visited several places, but he still felt that he was not as good as this place and came back. This is called "unlucky". Later, when the name was chosen, it was called "Daoyunlou" with the homonym of "unlucky".

Daoyun Building was built by three generations during the Wanli period of Ming Dynasty (1587). 1647, Jin came to the county seat (Sanrao), and an old man invited him to visit Daoyun Building. Gold inscribed the name of Daoyun Building, and the plaque of the previous year was embedded in the building door.

On May 25th, 2006, Daoyun Building, as an ancient building in Ming Dynasty, was approved by the State Council to be included in the sixth batch of national key cultural relics protection units.

The era when Daoyun Building was built was one of frequent wars. In order to resist the invasion of foreign enemies, the exterior wall of Gu Lou is equipped with gun holes and gun ports, and the top of the building door is equipped with a water-filled culvert, which can prevent the building door from burning, shuddering, rural fights, thieves, livestock, drought, cold and heat, fires, floods, earthquakes and so on. This is an indestructible castle village.

For more than 400 years, there has never been a big fire in Daoyun Building. The reason is that there are 32 wells in the earth building, which not only meets the domestic water demand of residents, but also plays a role in fire prevention and fire extinguishing.
