At the beginning of the founding of Emperor Wendi of Sui Dynasty, he felt that Chang 'an, which had been tossed about by hundreds of years of war, was no longer in line with the development trend of the times, and decided to build its capital outside Chang 'an, which was called Daxing City in history. After several years of operation and development, Daxing City became a world-famous metropolis at that time. Why did Yang Guang rebuild an oriental capital in the East? Does he feel that the country has more money and it is uncomfortable to spend no effort?
It is true that the Sui Dynasty had money, and it is also true that Yang Guang didn't spend money. However, most people don't know Yang Guang's ambition, boldness of vision and intention to build Luoyang as the capital.
During the Western Zhou Dynasty, Duke Zhou believed that Luoyang was in the world, which was convenient for paying tribute in all directions, so in addition to the western capital Haojing, Luoyang was designated as the eastern capital. At the beginning of the Western Han Dynasty, the great-grandfather Liu Bang fought all his life and traveled all over the world. He still thinks Luoyang is a good city and wants to make it his capital. But then a guy named Lou Jing appeared and lobbied him that although Luoyang was actually better, Chang 'an gave a good reason. Liu Bang took it orally and moved the capital to Chang 'an. Despite this, he still remembers Luoyang and goes to Luoyang for a holiday from time to time. During the Eastern Han Dynasty, Emperor Guangwu Liu Xiu conquered the world, thinking that Chang 'an had been destroyed by the rebel army and Luoyang was the best city to build its capital.
There were two capitals around the Zhou Dynasty in 800 and the Han Dynasty in 400. Yang Guang believes that in order to make the achievements of the Sui Dynasty surpass those of the previous dynasties, and to let future generations know that he is not the second generation of the old emperor, nor is he a master of mediocre achievements, he must fight for breath and build Luoyang City to strengthen the Sui Dynasty and make his reputation immortal.
This is one of them.
Later generations don't know that when Emperor Wendi of Sui took over Chang 'an from the Northern Zhou Dynasty, it was actually a ruined city. The Daxing City he built outside Chang 'an can only be regarded as the political and cultural center of the Sui Dynasty, far from being the economic center. Where is its economic center? Luoyang, of course
For example, the drought and locust plague in Sui Dynasty and famine in Guanzhong area were mentioned earlier. Emperor Wendi had to lead his ministers and disasters to Luoyang City to spend the famine year. Luoyang city is known as the granary of the world. It takes Luoyang as its east capital, develops the local superior economy and radiates the whole country. Is this not good?
From the perspective of economic interests, this is only the second.
One more thing, Yang Guang is very clear, but he can't point it out. From the founding of Emperor Wendi of Sui Dynasty to his accession to the throne, the Sui Dynasty experienced three rebel wars, one was Wei Chijiong's rebellion, the other was Jiangnan's rebellion, and the third was Yang Liang's rebellion.
The three rebellions all had a * * * character, and the locations of the rebellions were all outside Guanzhong. This fully shows that people outside Guanzhong do not adapt to and are unwilling to submit to the rule of Guanzhong. It is important to persuade them to do two things.
Secondly, the carrot policy is adopted. Get close to them, trust them, influence and assimilate them slowly. This is the most powerful experience he gained from the support of Jiangnan people after ten years of operation in Yangzhou.
Secondly, it is the sword policy. Luoyang city is in the world, east, west, north and south, and can take care of both. Once anything happens to either side, sending troops quickly saves time and effort. Therefore, from a military point of view, taking Luoyang City as its capital is to put a sword to monitor and deter the land of the East.
However, in order to develop Luoyang City and give full play to its economic and military advantages, Yang Guang still lacks one thing. That is, a water system that can run through the north and south.
So, Yang Guang wrote another letter on March 2 1 day, the same month that Luoyang was the capital of the city, and ordered Shangshu Youfu to gather migrant workers from the states south of the Yellow River and north of the Huaihe River, with a total of more than1000000 people before and after, and to dig Tongji Canal.
This Tongji Canal is a part of the legendary Grand Canal.
This great project, excavated from Luoyang Xiyuan, led the water system such as Luoshui to the Yellow River, then led the Yellow River from Banzhu (now the north of Xingyang City, Henan Province), crossed Yingze (now the northwest of Zhengzhou City, Henan Province), injected into the Bianhe River, east of Daliang (now Kaifeng City, Henan Province), and then re-entered Surabaya and Huaihe River. Then, more than 100,000 civilian workers in Huainan were recruited, and the ancient Han ditch was excavated, from Yang Shan (Huai 'an City, Jiangsu Province) to the Yangtze River (now the South Yangtze River Ferry in Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province) and injected into the Yangtze River.
The canal is 14 steps wide. Imperial roads are built along the river and willows are planted. There are always more than forty palaces from Daxing to Jiangdu.
At that time, Qin Shihuang built the Imperial Road to facilitate his eastward tour. Today, I, Yang Guang, dug a Grand Canal spanning more than ten latitudes and more than two thousand kilometers from north to south for the convenience of going down to Jiangdu. Who is more ambitious and verve?
If history can repeat itself, suppose history has regret medicine. Yang Guang's arrogant ambition to keep up with the joneses ended in the Grand Canal. He managed the country through meditation. History may be completely rewritten, and the Tang Dynasty may not appear. However, our later history books described Yang as a great hero, not a devil and a ruthless liar!
Unfortunately, history will not come back, and the hypothesis cannot be established. Yang Guangzhi's ambition is like a frozen wild horse. He believes in his Mercedes, but he will never pull it back!
That terrible political wild horse will take him to the cliff and the other side of darkness!
