Heze, formerly known as Cao Zhou, is one of the prefecture-level cities under the jurisdiction of Shandong Province. In the 13th year of Yongzheng in Qing Dynasty (1735), it was promoted to a government, with a county under its jurisdiction, and its territory and jurisdiction remained unchanged. It was named Heze, and this name has been used ever since. It is a famous peony capital, hometown of martial arts, hometown of calligraphy and painting, hometown of traditional Chinese opera and hometown of folk art in China.
Heze is located in the southwest of Shandong Province, bordering Jiangsu, Henan and Anhui provinces, with the latitude of 34 39 ′ ~ 35 52 ′ north and the longitude of114 45 ′ ~16 25 ′ east. North-south length 157 km, east-west width 140 km.
