Miao people have their own religious beliefs for a long time. After a long period of historical development, the religious beliefs of Miao people in different regions are different. In some Miao areas, due to traffic jams, Miao people believe in primitive religions; There are also a few Miao areas, such as Weining, Shimenkan and Yuanling in western Hunan, which converted to Catholicism and Christianity in modern times due to the influence of foreign missionaries. But on the whole, most Miao people still believe in primitive religions that have been formed for a long time, including nature worship, totem worship, ghost worship and ancestor worship.
Miao women generally wear narrow sleeves, big collars, double-breasted tops and pleated skirts. The dress is either long to the feet, elegant and colorful, or short to the knees and graceful. Casual clothes are mostly wrapped in a handkerchief on the head, a blouse on the upper body, a pair of trousers on the lower body, embroidered edges, an embroidered waist and a little delicate silver ornaments as a foil. Miao men's costumes are relatively simple, mostly double-breasted tops or right-handed robes, with wool felt woven with geometric patterns on their shoulders, blue baotou on their heads and leggings on their calves.
The calendar of Miao nationality has developed from the trade wind calendar, bucket handle calendar, Lianshan calendar, Tissot calendar, insect waiting calendar, migratory bird calendar, phenology calendar and astrology calendar to the solar calendar and the yin and yang calendar, which come down in one continuous line. However, the trade wind calendar, bucket handle calendar, Lianshan calendar, Tissot calendar, insect waiting calendar, migratory bird calendar and phenology calendar are the primary forms of calendars, while the astrological calendar, solar calendar, yin and yang calendar and yin and yang calendar are the advanced forms of calendars. The solar calendar, the lunar calendar and the combined calendar of yin and yang are also astrological calendars in a certain sense.
The Miao nationality has a calendar of 84 years, and the Miao language is called Ejina, Jieju, Ganjin, Gahuan and Gajin. Zhu Guo's Study on Miao Myth (Guangxi People's Publishing House, 1988, 12, 1) said: In ancient Miao society, there was a calendar with a counting period of 84 days, in which every day had a name and each name had a certain meaning, such as otter and swan. During the Republic of China, the draft of Bazhai County Records was called "Miao Jiazi".
Due to the unique migration history, the Miao people have formed their own unique architectural style in the selection of building materials and housing construction. Miao people like wooden buildings, which are generally three-story buildings. The first floor is generally a semi-house to solve the problem of uneven slope, so it is generally used for stacking sundries or keeping livestock in captivity. The second floor is the main house, and the third floor is the granary. Someone specially set up a "beauty lean" on the third floor for young girls to watch and show their beauty, so as to establish a preliminary relationship with Miao's brother.
