Shouning Temple Daxiong Hall
It is a place where monks in the whole temple recite scriptures, which can accommodate 2000 people. Above it is the abbot's throne, where everyone can enjoy its unique architectural structure, bronze sculptures and Thangka paintings hanging on all sides. Thangka is one of the Tibetan paintings, which originated before the 7th century. During the Songzan Gampo period, Princess Wencheng of the Tang Dynasty and Bhrikuti Devi of Nepal successively entered Tibet, which promoted the development of painting art. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the number reached its peak and increased, forming painting schools and painting organizations with different styles. "Thangka" began to promote religious teachings in temples. Render the mysterious atmosphere and decorate the temple, while the folk are the objects of worship in the room. In Tibetan culture, "Thangka" painting is regarded as a wonderful work. Thangka treasures such as "Two Saints and Six Kings" and "Pure Land of Blissfulness" collected in Shouning Temple were all made by Lang Kajie, a famous master of furnace and huo painting in Tibetan areas in the16th century. It is said that Lankajie was inspired by the Lotus Peanut Master and was able to magically depict Sakyamuni Buddha and sixteen arhats on half a pea. People respectfully call him "Langkaj", which means "the ornament of heaven". Some of his works are still preserved in the Potala Palace in Lhasa. His disciples are also famous at home and abroad for their superb painting skills. Thangka paintings hanging here, such as Guru Supporting Grain Fields, Three Master and Apprentice Zongkeba, and White Tara, are the works of Zhang Gudawa, a famous local farmer painter and one of the master's extended disciples. The Thangka paintings by the two men are rigorous in composition, fine in brushwork, colorful, unique in pigment formula and superb in skill, which is a must for Shouling Temple. Please look at the carved beams and painted buildings in this hall again. Concave-convex relief is lifelike. These tall square columns are not only the support of the whole building, but also exquisite works of art. These bronze clay sculptures also exude an ancient impression. Here, you can find the Tibetan people's unique feelings about beauty from generation to generation, and use their exquisite skills to shape their artistic image that embodies aesthetic standards.
