Third, the husband and wife respect each other as guests, love each other and grow old together. This is also the pledge of the Covenant, and then thank the matchmaker for the match. Therefore, all this was held under the witness of the gods of heaven and earth, the words of matchmakers and relatives and friends. This ceremony endowed the marriage with sacredness, solemnity, irretrievability and treachery.
