The novel took pains to paste a book written by a western mystic 500 years ago into the story, trying to enhance the ancient mystery of the novel, but it gave me the feeling that it was boring and nothing new. Of course, at the end of the novel, it is explained that the story may actually be the imagination of a mentally disordered policeman, but as the main part of the novel, it completely depends on this illusory and even far-fetched arrangement, and people come to the conclusion that there is only one word after reading it-false.
"Bad Neighbors on the Internet" also has a good beginning. The author makes a detailed and in-depth study on the problem of "internet addiction" caused by the network, the random change of identity played by people in the network world, and the peeping and manipulation of others by hackers. Although these particularly mysterious and dangerous possibilities really make people think and worry about cyberspace, I feel at a loss about a series of incidents caused by a girl's "self-immolation". Professional and tedious network terminology, boring and mysterious reasoning analysis and story evolution make people really unbearable to read.
The biggest failure of Please Lock the Door stems from the contradiction between the fiction of the story itself and the real narrative logic. From the beginning, the novel gives us a unique puzzle, which is actually a dead end that can hardly be solved, because in such a closed room, it is difficult for people to commit crimes, even if they commit crimes. This is the classic "murder in the secret room" problem in western mystery novels, and solving this problem is the key to evaluate the success or failure of a novel. The alternation and combination of reality and fiction is an important feature and key to distinguish horror novels from other similar novels. Generally speaking, a really good horror novel should be a perfect combination of reality and fiction. The so-called "fiction" is an imaginary world, and "reality" is the real world of reality. If viewed separately, "virtual" should be closer to fantasy novel, such as fantasy and Gothic, while "real" is generally a relatively real social novel such as reasoning and detective. The difficulty of horror novels is that they combine the two, and keep the integrity and internal transformation of narrative logic. Many horror novels can't solve this problem well, and they are often far-fetched, which makes readers suddenly destroy the atmosphere and strength of the whole story because of the flaws in a certain link when they read the most critical part.
Traditional mystery novels generally show crimes and clues, investigate the case, publish the results of the investigation, and finally explain the cause and process of the case. Its narrative structure is generally very organized and rational. In order to complicate the case, novels often artificially set mysteries and multiple clues, so that readers can experience the fun of logical reasoning in the process of solving mysteries with the author. However, horror novels bring readers into a state of anxiety, death and threat through suspense and exaggeration, which makes people feel a sense of fear psychologically. From this perspective, horror novels are the product of chaos and irrationality, more like a terrible nightmare. Stephen King's novel is a model of this kind of novel.
Of course, in recent years, the writing of horror novels is quietly transforming into suspense, which is actually the result of introducing the factor of mystery novels. It uses reasoning and suspense to increase the horror atmosphere of the story and make the plot more confusing. For example, the novel The Da Vinci Code, which is popular all over the world, and domestic horror writers such as Ghost Girl and Cai Jun, have made beneficial attempts in this respect. However, the appearance of The Da Vinci Code also produced terrible negative effects, which almost made China's horror novelists lose confidence overnight, and a group of loyal imitators and fans appeared. All the works are full of props such as "painting" and "code", and they are never tired of it. This reminds me of China's novel circle in the 1980s. With the introduction and popularity of One Hundred Years of Solitude and Borges, all our writers began to speak and write with Marquez and Borges accents in step. As a result, as Mr. Li Tuo said, we imitated Marquez and Borges as second-rate writers. And it was at that time that China literature began to take a big detour. Therefore, western horror novels are only a benchmark for our writing and should not be a model for mass production.
After World War II, an important reason for the decline of American horror literature is the repetition of themes and techniques, the content is divorced from reality, and the plot is absurd, which makes readers tired. Today, I am also full of worries in the face of domestic horror novels that have not yet reached the ascendant level. Repetition of content and conception, monotonous and blind imitation of techniques, and following the trend of each other are all hindering and endangering the development of domestic horror novels. -Don't our novels have nothing to write except schizophrenia, psychological suggestion, hypnosis, sleepwalking and spiritualism? At this time, I have to mention Stephen King again. After 1970s, American horror novels began to be fully revived. A group of talented writers, led by Stephen King and anne rice (whose works include Interview with Vampires at Night and The Corpser), while inheriting the heritage of traditional horror novels, are closely related to some problems and changes in American society, absorbing and drawing lessons from some elements of pure literature and other types of novels in their techniques, thus creating a brand-new model of contemporary horror novels. The novel realistically deals with supernatural elements such as ghosts, Prometheans, Vampires, Kinro and Wolves in traditional horror novels, and connects some traditional horror archetypes and factors with new problems and even some major events in real society, thus expanding the social capacity of the works. Horror novels (including all kinds of novels) are actually commodities, and its real development and prosperity depend on readers' reading needs. If there is some climate and market for domestic horror novels in recent years, it is entirely because there are a large number of readers who are obsessed with horror suspense literature. However, although we often compliment readers that they are God and have a generous heart, readers can also become Satan, and he (she) also has powerful destructive power, that is, boredom and rejection.
