In the border areas of southern Shandong, eastern Henan, northern Jiangsu and northern Anhui, there is a custom that "dog meat cannot eat noodles". On weekdays, it is not allowed to entertain guests with dog meat cooking. Otherwise, it is considered impolite, contrary to customs and criticized by everyone.
Dog meat, originally a kind of nutritious meat, is loved by everyone, especially children. Cooked dog meat smells fragrant and stimulates appetite. There is a saying that "dog meat rolls three times, and the gods can't bear it." Then, why can't dog meat, which is high in nutritional value and everyone likes to eat, be served? Why can we form a custom that everyone abides by and everyone abides by in a certain area?
According to legend, Liu Bang, the Emperor Gaozu, worked as an individual dog meat vendor in his hometown of Pei County before he became emperor. In this feudal society, which emphasizes capital and agriculture over commerce in the last days, businessmen are looked down upon, and doing small business-selling dog meat is even inferior. Therefore, Liu Bang kept his mouth shut about his past history of selling dog meat. Liu bang came to power, returned home with a full load, and shared weal and woe. One day, he was eating in a small restaurant in anonymity. The owner of this shop was originally a subordinate of Liu Bang, a department of Xiang Yu. They all recognized each other and understood each other. When Liu Bang was eating, the shopkeeper brought a plate of dog meat to Liu Bang. Is its purpose to satirize Liu Bang, or to respect and flatter Liu Bang? We don't know. However, Liu Bang thought it was the owner's intention to insult him. Angry from embarrassment, he killed the restaurant owner and ordered that no dog meat be served on the table.
